What is meant by self-sacrificing love ?
As I have written in one of my articles, love is the most sacred
sentiment of all human feelings and emotions. Love, in its narrow sense,
refers to intimate feelings and relationship between man and woman, but in
broad sense, there is motherly love for children, love for friends, family
members, for the weak and the old, for motherland ,and all in all love for
humanity. When love takes deep root in one’s heart, so deep and powerful
that one is willing to sacrifice what one has, wealth, fame, high social
position, even one’s life for the good of the loved ones. That kind of love
can be considered as self-sacrificing love, which only a few people cherish
in the material world of today. Outsiders might think such kind of persons
are rare , and foolish, as they do not know how to protect their own
interests, take care of themselves. However, in my opinion, only when there
are such people of good character and personality, who contribute their self
-sacrificing love for the benefit of others, can human society progress ,and
civilization be achieved.
When love between man and woman develops so strongly that they will
get married and have family. New generation will continue to write human
history.
Now I am going to tell you about sisterly love between my elder sister
and me. I fell serious ill in 2007. My elder sister came to see me from
Suchow and brought me an electric fan, which turns from side to side when
electricity is on. She told me how to use it so that I could safely spend
the hot summer days in Shanghai, though she herself had chronic disease-----
blood problem. She accompanied me a few days before going back home. Not
long after, she caught cold, which she could hardly get rid of , as her
immune system was low. Since then she became weaker and weaker because her
blood disease was getting worse and worse. Finally she was hospitalized,
until she passed away in May of 2008. Tears run down my cheeks, I cannot
help crying for the loss of such a good sister. She has the spirit of self-
sacrificing love. She would rather come and help me when I was in the
difficult time, neglecting her own illness and her own interests. God bless
her in heaven!
God gives us humans his only son, Jesus Christ, who died, in our place,
in order to save us from sin. Jesus Christ shed his blood to the last on
the cross. His holy love delivers us those who believe in him from sins and
give us eternal life, now, then and for ever. |
