I use fresh fruit (strawberry, blueberry, peaches, pineapple or mango,
papaya or a simple combination of two), some icecube, sugar (has to
experiment with this ingredient to reach desired sweetness), a small jar of
yogurt, and a banana.
I bought frozen fruit blend from Costco. Take some out and put into a bowl
of warm water for a couple of min so they soften a little bit. Since it is
still very cold, I don't add ice cube this time, just simply sugar, yogurt
and banana.
Don't forget to add a little bit of water. Otherwise the blender will get
stuck. Water is not needed if you use fresh fruit.
If the banana is not ripe enought, smoothie will not taste as good. But if I
take it out alltogether, the smoothis becomes watery too soon.

but if you are using small-sized frozen fruit, like organic strawberry, a
slice of peach half of the size of your thumb, then you don't need to de-
freeze it using warm water. Just throw into blender, add the rest and some
water (no need for ice cubes), and you are done.

I usually let them thaw in warm water for less than 1 min because kids are
rushing me from behind. So whatever the amount of bacteria that revived
during this period of time, should have a minimal effect on my health. I
used warm water just out of convenience. Cold running water should be the
best choice, like you said.
Last year we picked several baskets of strawberry from nearby farm. I washed
it using dish detergent, and rinsed with lightly salted water, drained and
stored away in freezer. I am sure they were cleaner than store-bought

But the taste worths the trip. Most strawberry in the field has a diameter
at the bottom not much bigger than a water bottle cap. And they were really
sweet and aromatic. Store bought strawberry is no match at all.
