board做临床医生要花费很大的精力体力物力财力，已年过三十，口语一般，并且可以
和公民结婚，不想费那个劲了。看了本版的一些帖子，感觉其实医学专业在美国这边还
有很多的细化可供不愿做basic research的医学生选择（比如病理科、理疗科、放射、
中医、牙科助理、药师助理什么的），请问我的情况选读什么比较好，要求最好不要超
过4年，不要跟人过多的communication，待遇不求多高，50～60K/年差不多了，不要太
累就好。谢谢。 |

在国内读的，不踏实，而且语言也不过关，还是想趁着不太老去这边的学校回回炉，彻
底感受一下，出来找个好点的工作。现在在实验室混着，整个人的状态很差，还是喜欢
读书时候那种紧张有盼头的生活。

其他的薪水可以打到你的5-6万的水平。工作挺稳定。

发帖数: 1299 | 18 这是对病理的误解。就算病理住院医师也主要就在第一二年做尸解，大多病理医生工作
中都不碰尸体的。
PA 主要外检，切大标本，起薪80K， 一般能到100K，且不值班和加班。 看医院要求不
同，有的要证书，有的可直接上岗。有认识的老美住院医直接转PA。

真不错听上去，其实我很想去读药，看着在CVS、walgreen什么的当个药师也不错的样
子，可惜自己是学医的。真想早定下方向，没有目标的日子真难受。现在主要是提高语言能力，不能一看外国字就头大，呵呵 |

residency is competitive, someone might not get matched forever
I think PA is good for people have big family responsibility with no big
career ambition. Many IM, Ped, Fam and neurologist get less than $140K in
academic hospitals. A PA for surgery or pathology or anathesiology can
easily get >100K. No calls, 9-5 job, garenteer vacation time, less medical
responsibility. How many doctors can work only 8hrs a day? PAs hour rate is
higher than many physicians. At current Tax system, extra $40k, you only get
around $15-20K back.
Get a MPA or MBA during the meantime, you might be able to move to hospital
administration. In modern hospitals, straight MDs are very hard to be
promoted into hospital aministration

发帖数: 611 | 34 以前以为PA program不收international student,后来发现一个朋友F1也被录取了，当
然去好学校就难了，不过无所谓的，出来找工作都一样好找。就是我现在也不清楚会不
会有地方给PA sponsor H1，以现在这种卖方市场，应该也没问题吧。尤其适合GRE还没
过期的同学，再修一些要求的课，来美国一年后就可以apply了，被录取的可能性还是
很高的，现在因为需求大，一些新的PA program也如雨后春笋，家里要先资助学费。我
觉得是一条很好的捷径。

的老美，都很挤在这条路上。虽然比进医学院从学术学业上要求低得多，但竞争度
绝对不低。
没人傻，好事谁都爱去争，尤其当前经济形式下，这种见效快，成本低、职业位置
多、收入虽不及医生但生活质量、工作责任压力小得多的医疗保健职业是极为热门
的。就拿病理的PA来说，全美国才8个正式培训单位，每个单位才数个毕业生。你可
以想象一个位置多少人争，绝对比进病理住院难得多！
我自己所在过得几个单位都有病理PA，全是一色高达强壮或漂漂亮亮的小鬼子，根
本看不到外国人！相反，全美国百多个病理住院单位，每年开会，CMG住院和FELLOW成
堆！

Pathologist assistant is a special category. There are around 140 PA
programs and many belong to some Universities hardly be heard of.
Let's do a simple math here:
One of the top program is Duke. 2 years ago published 728 applicants, 127
interviewed, and accepted 66, acceptance rate 9%. Sounds hard, but not
really. As most people apply more than 20 pograms, the application pool is
exaggerated. Similar like residency program, a program receive 500 (400 IMGs
, 100 AMGs) applicants for 5 positions, but in reality, AMGs apply average
30, IMGs average 70, the available AMGs is <1 per position and <2 IMGs for
one position. In combination: <3 for 1 position. That is why every year more
than half the people here will be matched, even it is 1:100 ratio
PA program is hard: not about how to get in, it is about how to get out.
many people can't finish the program due to heavy course work. So many
programs incline to have someone with medical background
Pathologist Assistant is a different story. Though there is a ASCP
certification thing, many places do not require it. There are a lot of home
made pathologist assistants out there.
Have you ever heard anyone tried and did not get into PA programs? I knew
many giving up boards and take the easy exit as PA

这是真正的有调查研究的解答方式。不是凭空想象。非常有用的信息。多谢。 补充一
点，Physician Assistant 有好的lifestyle。 但需要补3～4门预选课，根据不同
program的要求。要考TOEFL,GRE，要有PA shadowing，其他的没什麽。就像match一样
，有人说难，有人说易。每个人情况都不一样。我有同事已念完。
多好的讨论环境呀。

发帖数: 428 | 53 80% program是master degree。也有certified program。但是越来越少。去年PAEA想
申请进入Doctor degree，没获批准。理由是造成和MD混乱。有绿卡是肯定可以申请。
只要是外国大学毕业，就要求TOEFL；master program要求GRE，不论美国人或外国人。

dependent on programs, better have one to increase the chance. Some clinical
rotation also required (kind of ironic, applying residency don't require
clinic rotation, but PA needs)
You don't need a green card to apply for it, but without green card you can'
t get good student loan. That is a lot of money!! Without green card, you
have to stuck with big group or hospital to get an H1 visa.

我主要是想读pathologist assistants ，不是PA，ASCP certification programs 没
有我所在城市的学校，而我也不想去外地读书
前辈所说的“Though there is a ASCP certification thing, many places do not
require it. There are a lot of home made pathologist assistants out there.”
是说有ASCP certificate 之外的学校提供pathologist assistance training吗？读出
来之后也一样可以做pathologist assistance！

会，给病人问诊查体写写病例什么的，没处方权责任也小，是不是干这活？ |

发帖数: 1299 | 58 No. There is a nationwide credit program, only around 8 PaA programs. After
2005, you cannot use other routes to be certified.
However, there is no requirement for lab to hire certified PA at this moment
, so you still can be PaA. There are far more non certified PAs than
certified ones. Whether eventually, noncertified ones will be pushed out or
re-open the alternative routes for certification is not sure. For financial
reason, some labs do hire non-certified ones
You can get a PA job first and wait for the opportunity to get into credited
programs. PA course is notoriously hard, some program do take foreign
medical students ( I knew an old Russian medical graduate in PA school)
All PAs (including PATH) 就是百年住院医师, 需要一定心理承受力. 10年20年以后,
你帮助过的住院医都变大牛, 有的你还觉得挺笨的, 你还是PA,新的小毛孩都要指挥你
,见谁你都叫DR, 人家直呼你小名. 那酸葡萄味不是每个人都能淡然处之的. 老美行,

读完就是master degree, international students need take toefl.Toefl score
requires 100 & up, GRE 1200. 需要读2-3年再加上clinical rotation.

In summary speaking in Toefl should be more than 26 out of 30 in total.
Green card.
26 out of 30 is impossible for me. I got 15 out of 30 in 2008.
Average GRE for 2010.
GRE scores: verbal = 530, quantitative = 661, and written (analytical) =
4.4
