long does it take? 30-40 min to GWB? I am commuting to 168, over the GWB.
little concern about the trafic.
It seems to me RW has more family friendly neighborhood. But I could be
wrong. Plus, houses are little bit cheaper than Tenafly (not too much though
).

house there later...
there are buses that go through GWB, like #186 and 178. subway A is right
there at the bus stop. Not sure if it's a good idea to drive, unless you
keep crazy hours.

You are right, NJTRansit bus 186/178 go over the GWB. But it seems that the
coach/short line offers better commute from RW to the City, with less stops
in between. For me, coach bus has one stop right in the corner of my school.

Do you live in RW? How about the publich school bus? My eldest is going to
first grade this fall. I heard that no school bus within 2 miles in RW.
Wondering how young kids walk 1 mile to school, let alone 2 miles.

Without traffic, it's about 35 mins from Ridgewood downtown to Columbia
medical center. Traffic after 8:45AM is not bad at all. In the evenings,
traffic is manageable after 6:30PM. Someone above mentioned that it only
takes 20 mins from Ridgewood to Columbia without traffic. I don't know how
that can be done. It takes 20 mins just to get to Fort Lee from Ridgewood.
Do not take NJ Transit bus from Ridgewood to GWB. It has many local stops.
It will take an hour on the bus. Then adding waiting time and subway ride,
we're talking about an hour and half commute minimal.
To take Coach, you need to drive to Rt. 17 Park and Ride. It's a 10 min
drive from downtown to the Coach Ridgewood stop. Parking is $6 a day or you
can pay $650 a year for unlimited parking. The actual ride from Ridgewood Rt
. 17 to GWB is around 30 mins. Adding driving to bus stop, bus ride, then
subway, we're talking about an hour door to door commute. Not bad.
Many Chinese people have been moving into Ridgewood in last three years.
Asians are about 15%-20% of total Ridgewood population. There are more
Koreans than Chinese, but you’d like to bump into Chinese at YMCA,
supermarket or library.
There are school buses in Ridgewood elementary schools, but very few
families qualify. There is only one school bus for each of the six
elementary schools, so less than 10% of school kids are eligible for buses.
Most of parents drive kids or walk to schools. If both parents work, there
is before and after care run by Y in the same school building. You can drop
off your kids at 7:15AM and pick them up by 7PM in the evening. The cost is
very low, i.e. around $500 a month.
