The United States Supreme Court has refused to stop same-sex marriage in the
District of Columbia, clearing the way for couples to register to wed
beginning March 3, 2010. Equal rights opponents in the capital had asked
Chief Justice Roberts to prevent the issuing of licenses until residents had
voted on the issue. Lower courts had denied requests to place a moratorium
on issuing of licenses.

and the upcoming gay marriage lawsuit. This DC case only demonstrates the
willingness of the supreme court to limit its power from completely
consuming the states' capabilities in determining their own regulations, be
it related to civil union or any other issues, to say the education budget.
This order may not necessarily reflect its judgment on the gay marriage,
which essentially waas not discussed.

sovereignty是不是要包括联邦权益让我们拭目以待。
