New York Times review by A.S. Byatt
What is the secret of the explosive and worldwide success of the Harry Potter
books? Why do they satisfy children and — a much harder question — why do so
many adults read them? I think part of the answer to the first question is
that they are written from inside a child's-eye view, with a sure instinct for
childish psychology. But then how do we answer the second question? Surely one
precludes the other.
The easy question first. Freud described what he called

I'd have dismissed this kind of article before HP5 came out. But honestly,
OoP in some degree deserves this erudite and harsh and placid review.

I’ve been reading your review on HP V, and to be frankly, i don't really like
your satirical attitude.
First principle of academic research: for all the questions for a certain
phenomenon, the most important one is not "what", "when" ,"where", or "how",
but "why", for which the very one could lead the research from the appearance
to the essence.
However reading harry potter is not one of these moments that we need to

the review was from new york times written by a novelist Byatt. i transferred
it becoz it was controversial, not becoz i liked or agreed with it. i did add
a follow-up to show this personal view.
Byatt herself wrote novels and i also thought it was *interesting* to see her
critique on others' works.
frankly, this review was humourless and being tactless to group readers so; it
was hard not to take offense. but really, our own feelings and judgement
toward a book, and about ourselves, cant be

even though i like HP a lot, but i think this critic is pretty good. at least
it let me realize why i like HP so much. it may be indeed because of so-called
"family romance"

i wish the reviewer could be more witty and assertive, and choose an
approachable title. a common reader might wince at this "childish adult" and
feel hostile against the following text. the review had a point in saying
harry potter's world was derivative and based on small ground. nevertheless
harry potter is not necessarily inferior to metaphysical type fantasy that is
original and addresses big issues. the way to write holds weight too, and it
can tip the balance. tho hp5 was somewhat sl

finally, i can use my own ID...
for the first time on the internet, i'm supprised in a good way. frankly, i've
been waiting for all kinds swear pulling on me after writing something so
aggresive. i know what i said previously was kind of extreme...and i totally
understand that what you mean by pasting this review here is merely offering a
alternative point of view.
please accept my apology for taking it personally.
yet, i guess the reason that i'm so offended is becuase i just hate when
