Groupon will demand your deal be at least 50% off the regular price. Next,
you have to pay Groupon 50% of the purchase price (unless your offer is less
than $10 in which case Groupon keeps 100% of the revenue).
基本就是商家赔本做广告,而能这么做的只有两种商家,1新店,2长久不见赢利的

i haven't been to ebay for a long time but bought several things from ebay
ever since the groupon deal, so groupon is working for ebay in my case. i
signed up for groupon because of the ebay deal, so it is working for groupon
also in my case. win-win situation.

其实现在网络Startup泡沫和Commodity泡沫一样, 是对inflation的规避.

上次Ebay那个算是个特例,外加Ebay实在是财大气粗,一年搞出个"貌似"200万左右的
DEAL不算什么,而且Ebay不可能像其他小型商家再付给groupon收入的50%,最重要的是
你见其他大中型实体店像ebay那样做过吗?所以俺觉得Groupon基本就是忽悠小商业主
的公司.至于在groupon消费的人基本都是付钱充当白老鼠的主.

Groupon本来就是以Local为主,你知道Local 的ad biz有多大嘛?

craigslist is too small. Local ad is a $50B business. think about all those
junk mail, yellow page, newspaper.
radio, local Tv. Those ad dollar will move to online sooner or later.
It is also a reason why companies like Google, Facebook, etc are in prime
positions to capture the offline to
online shift.

俺脚的groupon赶在非死不可之前IPO很英明哈,乘着形势好赶紧把所谓的价值变成钱装
进袋袋。
俺不看好groupon,没啥前途。 当然更不看好非死不可,it是个泡泡,吹得又大又霸道
,极其让人讨厌。

感觉GROUPON的商业模式有FUNDAMENTAL FLAW。
大多数LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS都是想靠COUPON吸引人来,期待其中一部分人能成为忠
诚客
户,感觉象是一种广告。可是我觉得整天盯着COUPON的这个群体对价格很敏感,没有
COUPON就不去
了,或者觉得按原价支付反而亏了。我就有这样的经验,比如上餐馆,有的经常有
COUPON的餐馆,我
一定要等拿到了COUPON才去。如果暂时没有,就去另外一家,即使那家没有折扣,价钱
也贵一点,我
觉得多付点钱换换口味也值得。经常提供COUPON的那家餐馆,我是从来不会按原价支付
的。
如果我是SMALL BIZ OWNER,我才不会傻到大幅降价来吸引这部分人。

在service 行业,价钱本来就很难有可比性。把价抬高点,然后给你个discount,一般
人不可能察觉。

前几天闹得很凶的一个新闻就是象你说的,VALENTINE'S DAY,有人用GROUPON的
COUPON去
买花,50% DISCOUNT,不过发现花的价格比不用COUPON的贵了一倍。这事后来不知道
怎样收尾
的。

用COUPON的人对价格很敏感,连这么大的差别人家都不知道,那这样的人本来就不应该
浪费时间去
找COUPON。
刚刚GOOGLE了“GROUPON BUBBLE”,看到这样一个COMMENT:
Groupon will soon be going down in flames. Why. Because once a
business trys groupon and finds out what a money loser it is, the word
will get out.
The last customer a business wants is one that only wants to buy your
product at 50% off. What a stupid idea.

Don't read into those comments too seriously. And if value a business only
based on news, your judgment will
be seriously biased.
The demographics of Groupon users are totally different from those coupon
clippers. The true bargin hunters
are not the targeted market of Groupon. Instead, most of groupon users are
white collar professional females.
Groupon is doing $2B a year and LivingSocial is doing $1B a year. I don't
know how long their growth story will
last but I definitely won't call them a fad.

white collar professional female 也可以是 bargain hunter啊。很多BARGAIN
HUNTER都是身价千万的呢,跟一个人的LIFE STYLE有关系而已,跟你赚多少钱没有绝
对联系。
现在GROUPON赚钱不等于将来会赚钱。现在它刚出来,很多BIZ觉得这可能是个机会,所
以投点钱试
试,如果发现这个MODEL不能持续,可能它将来的REVENUE就会从$2B变成$2M。

There are repeating biz on Groupon. The problem with Groupon now is its
platform too primitive, other than
spamming users, its ad targeting and ad buy technology is too bad (a
downside of a company started in
Chicago). That's why it relocates its engineering office to bay area and
try to tap into the talent here to build
up its platform.
right now it is a sales company, mainly rely on those sales people in each
city. Those people are by nature
very short-term oriented and bring in a lot of junky deals, which pissed off
many users.
