Bloomberg
iRuler of all?
Yesterday, UBS joined the burgeoning Apple $400-a-share club, as my pal Matt
noted. The group is growing, with members including Goldman Sachs, Bank of
America and CLSA.
This raises an intriguing question: at what price would Apple surpass the
mighty muckers at ExxonMobil to become the most valuable public company in
the land?
It’s a matter of simple math, and at $400, Jobs & Co. fall just shy.
ExxonMobil had a market cap at the close yesterday of $386.16 billion. We
understand oil. It’s important, everyone uses it and it’s expensive.
ExxonMobil is the big dog in that party, which is why they are the most
valuable public company.
Apple is the hot ticket of the time. It’s gadgets are must have and it is
positioned perfectly in a world going more mobile. It is big and cool, no
small feat. Even the Apple stores are always on the hipper shopping streets
in town.
At $400-a-share, Apple’s 917 million shares translates to a market cap of
366.8 billion.
The magic number, all other things unchanged, looks like $422-a-share, a
gain of 22% from its current level around $345. That would put Apple’s
market cap at $386.97 billion, besting the oil grandees of Irving, Texas.
Right now, the battle for the top spot is very much a two-horse race.
Microsoft is in the three hole at $244.26 billion, Berkshire Hathaway is
fourth at $199.58 billion and General Electric is fifth at $198.76 billion.
How do Apple’s numbers stack up? Through the 12 months ending Sept. 25,
2010, Apple had $65.2 billion in revenue, almost double the 2008 revenue
figure. Net income was $14 billion, sharply higher than the $4.8 billion
earned during the 2008 year.
ExxonMobil is yet to report their fourth quarter, but in the first three
quarters of last year it had revenue of $187 billion and net income of $21.2
billion. It’s revenue and income picture is very much tied to oil and it
doesn’t move rapidly like Apple’s numbers do.
Apple needs to sell a lot more iThings before it can catch the Texas boys.
But the fact that it’s a possibility must make John Sculley cringe.

泡泡该破了吧
苹果是牛比,但要说是世界最大公司,离谱了点
这不是说人类玩物丧志了么
