p********t 发帖数: 1219 | 1 I just received the letter from the company and the salary increase is
less than expected. Can I request information from the manager like the
average salary increase level, or the impacting factors of my increase,
either positive or negative? Is it possible for a re-negotiation?
Thanks. |
p********t 发帖数: 1219 | 2 BTW, it is my second year in the company. Should I expect a 5-7% salary
increase normally? They always say the new employee should have higher
salary increase while senior ones have lower.

p********r 发帖数: 1980 | 7 Of course you can. It's business, just do it in a professional way. Don't
criticize your manager, but do let him/her know that you feel
disappointed.
That's the thing about negotiation. Never criticize the other side,
because they will defend themselves and block everything you are about to
say after that. But they can't deny how you feel and you could suggest
other ways to resolve this, such as taking more responsibility in the
future to justify bigger salary increase.

Normally, no, you shouldn't expect a bigger salary increase just because
you are new. But of course, that depends on whether you are underpaid to
begin with.

1980 | 11 That's exactly what goes wrong in most salary negotiation. You focus on your
position (wanting more salary) v.s. your manager's position (that your
salary increases is fair). And that usually won't lead to any good outcome.
But there is always some common goals between you and your manager,
regardless of office politics. So there is always rooms for negotiation,
such as more job responsibility, more flexible working schedule, and more
visibility of your work, etc.
Negotiation is not about asking others to give up their positions but to
create some options that will result in a happy working environment for both
of you.
