service engine soon Light on code P0442 (Evaporative Emission Control System
Leak Detected (small leak)), I bought new gas cap and and drive 15 mils,
light is sill on.
Did someone has similar experience ?
Should light be off immediately after new gas cap is on ? (assume it is gas
cap's problem.)
Is it ok to drive another 400 miles in this condition? |

next 'check cycle'. (code goes back to pending status.)
Am I right ?
If I am right, how long is this cycle for P0442 ? (to my understanding, for
differnet code, the time for computer to turn the check engine light off are
differet)

It depends on your car. They usually require a 'certain number' of cycles
with various driving conditions of the car. Some cars require a certain
number of engine shutdown/restart before clearing the code. Anyway, they
easiest way is to reset the code.
How do you know it's the gas tank cap? It could be the charcoal canister or
hoses going in and out of the canister.

It looks like the cheapest way I should do first is to replace gas cap.
