同学们都爱听故事 :-)，我就再讲两个小故事，都是真实的湾区故事。
第一个是我的一位朋友，social sciences背景 精通SAS. 多年工业经验。非常优秀。
在湾区一个大公司做Analytics部门主管多年。三四年前公司缩编，换工作到一个
startup 做Analytics 和模型的负责人，director 级別以上。上任没几天，问题
来了。公司只用R. 沒有SAS！ 她想让公司买SAS license. 公司的founder/CEO 拒绝。
结果她需要立刻上手R，结果学得很痛苦(她后来自己跟我们大家讲的)。估计也沒时间
学。每天long commute across Bay. 回家还要照顾家人，哪有时间？ 结果，被迫再次
跳槽，还好，找到下一家有SAS 的公司工作，更远的上班commute。。
还有一个例子就是我自己。呵呵，同学们都爱听StatsGuy当年的悲惨故事:-)

Chinese version and SAS English version, I get different regression results.

SAS is 32-bit 9.3 English and Simplified Chinese.
The procedures that I use are Proc Reg and Proc Logistic. Both results are

这个学期因为一门统计课用了R和SAS
R的语法虽然不是很intuitive，但还OK了。
可是SAS，我的感觉只能用terrible来形容，语法之ugly让我佩服SAS的编写者真是太有
才了。
而且，作为一个商业软件，SAS的document连免费软件都赶不上，help差不多是我所见
过的最差的
实在是搞不懂为什么工业界那么多用SAS的。
学术界应该没有什么人用吧？

帮忙，装上去，但后来那个好心人走了，我的系统又重装了，没了sas.咬咬牙决定买一
个sas软件用。我对电脑不太了解，准备买sas 9.1.3，不知道sas ９。１。３是不是象
microsoft office 那样，是一张cd一样的东西，然后再装上去。准备买了，去sas的主
页上看看，也看不出怎么个买法。又去我们学校的网站上看，好象要买什么 license,
好象还要renew，后来又google，也没找到解决办法，总之是撤底晕了。不知哪位好心
人能帮帮俺。给个link啥的。谢了。 |

首先是关于base的 大约看online tutor两周 做完了base的50题跟123题 就去考试
了 顺利通过 其次关于ADV 也是看先看的 online tutor 看了两周 做了Killtest 出
的 ADV130 顺利通过 从准备到考完 正好一个月 关于折扣
有学生证的把学生证扫描件发送到这个信箱：c***********[email protected]告诉他你想申请
折扣 ，通常第二天就会收到你的code了 小伙code的有效期是3个月 隐约记得是这样写

贱妾用的不是萎死他，不知道怎么修改文件的默认打开方式，麻烦楼主自己Google吧。
不过把.sas文件的默认打开方式修改成上面那个命令就可以了，双击的时候就会用SAS
editor打开了。
注意D:\PROGRA~1\SAS是我自己的SAS安装路径，楼主别忘了改。 |

前两天 Windows Update 自动提示安装 Service Pack 2。于是装。
正好这两天 SAS License 也到期了。装完后 renew SAS license，出现提示：SAS.exe
has stopped.... 重试多次，都是一样。
后来注意到有一行提示：Please check you have sufficient access to ...
于是切换 Administrator 登录。一切 OK。在回到自己的用户名下登录，启动 SAS，发
现无法启动。出现和 renew license 时一样的错误。
注：我自己的用户也是管理员用户。当然，大家都知道，Vista 里面，只有
Administrator 才是真正的管理员，其他用户虽然设置成管理员，权限还是低一些。这
我也知道。不过以前我安装 SAS 的时候，是在我自己的用户名下安装的。也一直在我
自己用户名下使用的。然而现在却只能在 Administrator 下使用 SAS 了。
我另外有台 laptop，用的 Windows XP，一点 |

I wrote a .bat file in notepad:
C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 9.1\sas.exe -sysin C:\batch run SAS\testingb.sas
then I saved it as batchc.bat. then I went to Window Exploer to schedual to
run this at certain time, but it doesn't work.

的确是有mixed的数据。可是我转了个相似的data没问题啊。详细说说吧：
1. 我在access里要用到它的3个tables中的信息。首先，我一个table一个table的把它
们变成了excel file，然后用proc import一个一个的把它们转到SAS中。成功。
2. 因为我想把3个tables中的信息放在一个table中在SAS中做Analysis，但SAS中用
merge什么我怕有multiple entries （不同的table有不同数量的multiple entries）
容易出错。所以我在access里用query把这三个tables先放到一起，然后转成一个excel
sheet，最后录入SAS。 于是就给出了error message。
所以我觉得mixed的数据类型应该不是问题，因为之前没有出错啊。我能想到的就是
combine了以后row 太多，但前面也有朋友说SAS能handle很大的数据，应该也不是问题
。还有就是SAS能发现我这个新的excelsheet是从access中combine了不同的tables来的

书馆管理，然而毕业后就失业了。我一直想找专
业对口的工作，也一直没找到。为了贴补家用，
我去餐馆做外卖郎，这些年来，马里兰大大小小
十几家餐馆我都做遍了，景气好的时候，也可以
多赚点钱。有时也会没有收入，甚至连修车的钱
也拿不出来。时间过得很快，这六七年便浑浑噩
噩地过去，有时也会安慰自己，也许自己是李安
第二，会有出头的一天。好在老婆心胸宽大，没
有和我计较这些年的“不顺”。
这些年来，房子，票子和孩子都没有。有时
送完外卖，站在街头，真不知何时能凑够首期买
到一幢房子可以遮风避雨。有一次偶然的机会，
我送外卖时遇到一位做IT 行业的同胞，他有一
间自己窗明几净的办公室，收入也不错。令我好
生羡慕。一来二去，和他熟了以后，我忍不住问

find?
Short answer: very bright.
Long answer: very bright depending on how you handle the situation, how you
purposely develop your knowledge and skills and adopt them to the current
needs.
Here is the trend:
1) 20 years ago: if you tell a hiring company that you know SAS, then you
get a job.
2) 10 years ago: if you have a master in statistics and you know SAS, then
you get a job.

been using SAS for xyz years. I personally know a handful of them. Most of
them fall into one of the following categories:
1. Doing exclusive with SAS data step, and not familiar with anything else;
2. Working with one or two SAS proc's, and not knowing anything else;
3. Displaying SAS graphs in a fashion way, and not knowing anything else.
4. Adding some lines to existing SAS programs routinely, and thus believing

发帖数: 11 | 50 phd毕业，做ra的时候用的是R，s-plus，matlab，还有一些编程语言C,C++,perl,
python等，没用过SAS。对SAS的了解程度基本上只有The Little SAS Book,和版上推荐
的SAS programming in the pharmaceutical industry这两本书的内容。
现在想找药厂工作，请教几个问题：
1)programmer和statistician的区别具体是啥，statistician的工作内容是什么，需要
编程吗？
2)这两种职位面试时的侧重点分别是什么，是不是programmer主要被问SAS的编程细节
，statistcian主要被问phd研究方向？
3)SAS需要掌握到什么程度？ 面试会问哪些SAS问题？
