Reduce the number of PhD. Fund students with training grants/fellowships,
rather than research grants.
Only people with interests in faculty jobs take up postdoc positions.
Gradually increase postdoc salary to that of research staff. Increase the
ratio of staff/postdoc.
Increase training diversity and expand MS programs that match industry needs.
Grants:
Focus on the overall quality of one's science as much as their proposed
projects.
Shut down nonproductive fields/big projects.
Less requirements on preliminary results

限制grant数量以后，大牛实验室也无法负担 那一群人的stipends了～ 大牛们也不会
为了拿5个RO1拼命 make story了～
多花时间享受一下生活～ 多想想怎么把bench work转化成small business， patent和
product～ 这样，也能更有效解决社会就业问题

工资水平和禁止research grant money用于支付学生和博后的工资。但是这个只能是起到
引领潮流的作用：众多靠非联邦资助存活的实验室如何改进，谁也不知道。
我个人更担心的，是大幅减少位置后众多博后的去向问题。毕竟人数太多，不能一句
“这是改革的必要成本”就给打发了。

发帖数: 339 | 9 对，关键是NIH能不能做出实质性的改革。这篇文章的致谢里有Francis Collins的名字
，他肯定想改，但是神仙们如何博弈就不知道了。今天收到学校的email,对这篇文章的
评论是highly publicized, 也许能引起一点响动吧。
对funding的限制是每年1million以上的funding要谨慎考虑，因为decreased marginal
production per dollar.

放弃手上的好处，给薄厚加工资，现实吗

关键问题不是NIH能解决的，需要congress直接介入。这也是许多问题多年积习难返的
