I am going to law school this fall, and I am an engineer.
DAXIAs, can you recommend any books for me to read b4 school starts, or
recommend something MUST do b4 school starts.
A little bit nervous about this career change.

I will go to law school this fall as well. Just got a letter from the dean,
here is the last paragraph:
"Before I close this letter, let me impart one more piece of advice. I know
that you will be tempted to try to get a head start on substantive law
study. You should resist the impulse. The first year of law school is
grueling enough as it is. Moreover, such efforts are likely to be confusing
or pointless, or both. You will be much better served by finding time to
simply relax."
If you want, you can check out Jay Feiman's Law 101. Just some light reading
.

Suggestions
1) improve your reading speed and vocabulary. No need to read law-related
books. WSJ, Time, Newsweek, etc are all good ones. Focus a little bit on
political issues.
2) if you REALLY have time and REALLY want to get jump start, listen to PMBR
CDs (just for first semester classes), make an outline yourself by trying
to understand as much as possible. I know American law students who are so
determined that they takes bar preparation classes before law school. They
usually get higher grades, which are so important for them to find a good
job/intern position.
3) exercise regularly, be healthy. The first year may be very stressful.
Then, I got the worest grades in my whole life, even though I have never
studies that hard. You may need a strong physical body as well as a stable
mental status.
4) if you are moving to another city, prepare earlier to get familiar with
the new place.
Good Luck. First year law school is FUN!

Law school is a marathon. You should work out more in the summer so as to be

My two cents:
1) One L, a book by Scott Turow, gives you a basic idea of the life of a
first-year law student.
2) Vault 100 & AMLaw 100/200 lists, to get familiar with the names of the
law firms, if Big Law is your career goal.
3) "Getting to Maybe", or "law School Confidential", gives you some ideas of
the game played by law professors in class or in exam.
With respect to BarBri or PMBR, I don't recommend since first, you won't
understand much; second, memorization is not the key to get good grade; and
third, the process of coming up outlines as in PMBR is critical for learning
.

I read Law 101, One L, and Law School Confidential before law school. Knowing what I know now, if I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have done anything before law school started.
Now that I've been out of law school for a while, the only thing I wish I did before law school was to take bar/bri lectures. Unfortunately, I don't think bar/bri offers any prelaw programs.

i did absolutely nothing, ie, no books, no typing, no exercise, physical or

turned out doing nothing was the best prep. I was a science major too.

Agree. I would rather enjoy some free time. 1L is hell and I don't want to

Physical exercise is important. A healthy body is the most important thing
you need.

These advices and suggestions are only valuable as either positive or
negative data points if the original posters provide their class ranks and
GPAs.
Why would I want to listen to someone's advice on 0L prep if this person is
merely a median student?

No need. Some questions can be answered circumstantially.

"circumstantially" - your English is startlingly sophisticated. :) Must be a
non-median student.
