常常听人们谈论距离。人与人的距离，心与心的距离，爱与恨的距离，苦与甜的距离，
我们谈论这些距离，丈量这些距离，试图跨越这些距离。然后有一种距离却是有去无回
，这是生与死的距离。
生与死或许是最遥远的距离，需要一生走过；它也会是最短的距离，有时不过是一线之
隔。
在寒风刺骨，大雾弥漫的山顶，四周白茫茫的一片，独自站在云端。是按计划独自前行
，还是等待其他登山者一同下山？哪里是来路，何处是去途？眼前的山脊可就是Devil
’s Backbone？所有这些决定在脑海中不过一瞬，然而在这一瞬间跨越
了生与死的距离。
在华氏110度的Malibu荒山中，迷路2小时后终于找到小蹊的入口时，继续还是返回？在
那一刻，我并不知道这是一个什么样的选择。直到３个小时以后，因为干渴缺水，在烈
日下冷战时，我才明白我们跨越的一段什么样的距离。
生与死的距离有时是如此之近，我们会难以分辨。愿生但不恋生，每一寸的生命都需要
细细丈量。山是如此的壮丽与神秘，需要敬畏的心体会；亲友是如此的温暖，需要谦卑
的心领受。
这是一扇门，推门而去的人们从来没有回来，于是我们无法知道门那边的风景。如果有
一天，我们有幸推门而入，我们不会为此岸的风景留恋，也不会为彼岸的未知恐惧。
我是相信灵魂能够独立肉体而存在的。我猜Michelle一定在快乐地飞翔。没有了躯壳的
牵挂，她可以飞得更高、更远，阿根廷，珠穆朗玛.......”Hiking was her life”,

很怀疑写这话的人根本没经历过生离死别，身处险境，或者亲身经历过救援。
生活里，我见过很多人在真正经历过危险之前，都踌躇满志，觉得自己是在挑战自然，
挑战生命，有勇气。这些人大部分经历过一次险情之后，都变得异常保守，也意识到自
己以前的想法有多幼稚。

, but good news is that you don't need to be the best mountaineer to have
passion in the mountain. Being self is the most important, everyone is
different, how much you can take the risk with the passion depends solely
how much passion you have for it and whether or not you think it is worth
the life for, again everyone must answer this question themselves, there is
no right or wrong answer. We just need to be responsible for our own life.
Even the best mountaineers have reasonable mount of fears of mountains, this
is reason they also take safely precaution and preparation to the best they
can. Fears is within human nature, they can either make us lay back, stay
home and doing nothing, or we can try to overcome it and experience the true
self and the world a little better than others. Its not the mountain we
conquer, but ourselves.

hiking trip. As a matter of fact, I believe she didn't anticipate she would
be gone that day.
May her soul rest in peace........with the nature and wilderness.

s passion, but also relies on one's characteristic, experience, and value. Y
ou don't put yourself in a dangerous situation simply because you have passi
on, do you?
I personally don't know Yu at all, so I can not claim if she would do the sa
me thing again if she had chance. What I can say is may she rest in peace, a
nd for hikers/climbers, the best way to memorize her is to learn lessons
from her experience and be safe.

the other discussion board, she's well experienced in the snow condition, and I
will take others that know her well in person that she is experienced (in
terms of winter hiking).
I went to Langley and I think I can take the risks of attempting Langley in
winter based on my own life, choice. Its pretty flat in between until the
base of summit, I didn't say I HAVE to summit, just experience the sierra in
the snow condition.
I agree we should learn the lessons of others in this case, instead of
having to pay the high price of our own.

Over the course of the last four days, our family has fought to keep hope
alive that our beloved Michelle would come home to us after an exhausting
ordeal on Mount Baldy. We are simply devastated to know now that she will
not.
Our family cannot adequately express our grief at the untimely passing of
our vibrant, incredible Michelle; but, we have been so touched by and
grateful for the outpouring of support from so many people who loved and
cared for her. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for all of your
thoughts, prayers, and efforts.
“Thank you” does not begin to sufficiently relay our immense gratitude and
appreciation for all of the counties, especially San Bernardino and Los
Angeles, which extended such tremendous support to the Search and Rescue
efforts to find Michelle in difficult conditions at the risk of their own
safety. To all of the officials, countless volunteers, and well-wishers who
contributed vastly in the efforts to recover our loved one, we are forever
grateful. Our family would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to
Pastor Ron Thomas and the Mt. Baldy VillageChurch for opening their doors to

结果第4天的行程因为天气原因，天黑前没能下到大路上，心里好急呀！不过总算有惊
无险。
知道自己是菜鸟，今生无望成为牛人；但纵情山水，让我理解了为什么每年都有人因登
山而死，因为我一样醉心于此。
这位女士的行程其实很适合平时的training, 如果附近有这样的山，我们想必也会周末
常去走走。只是，hiking 真的是有危险的运动。回想每座爬过的山，总会有艰难的路
段，下脚时哪一下没注意到，后果都是严重的。但我们仍乐此不疲。我觉得一个hiker
死于大山上，真是死得其所。如果知道这次是不归之旅，当然没人肯去冒这个险。但问
题是，你又如何未卜先知呢？常在河边走，怎么能保证不湿鞋？
