j****u 发帖数: 5 | 1 I graduated more than 16 years ago and was an attending physician in China
with 10 years hands-on experience in pediatrics including 5 years at PICU.
Currently live in US with a green card. My USMLE scores are step1/step2=75/
82. I have about 1 year volunteer experience at local free clinic doing
triage and screening. Now I am preparing on 2010 year residency match in
Pediatrics, FM and IM.
With the poor USMLE scores and long graduation years, I am not too confident
in this match. Is my China me |

try.
And, you are not alone. Quite a few people like you are doing the same thing
now.

PED had about 100+ programs nationwide, when you screen them, the cutting
off graduation year reduce the available programs to 30+.
IM has about 450 programs nationwide, screen all of them, you'll get about
100-150 available.
FM is the worst, emphasis too much on graduation year and hands-on US
experience, even you're qualified for their application criteria, the chance
of interview is low.
Score is important, however, at certain point, it's not really a critical

useful. If some US physicians can describe your knowledge, experience and
personal strength, that will be very valuable for the residency application. |

if u don't have any connections even for IM. |
d***8 发帖数: 2039 | 6 There are many states in the mid-west which issue Medical License if you
pass the step 1 and 2 to practice medicine. Actually you don't really need
to go through the residency to practice medicine in a hospital. You will
need to research to know which states allow you to do that. |

translate it into something US physicians understand and trust, THAT IS,
LORs about your capacity in PED from US physicians. Ask for letters from US
physician, go do obsevership et al, as soon as you can proove you can
function as well as a physicians in US as in China, with 10+ years
experience, you will get matched, who wont want someone work like an
attending and paid like a resident :) Good luck! |
