发帖数: 15 | 1 First of all, I am no expert on this. The following is merely based on my
personal experience and what I observed over the years. So take what it
worth.
1. Be confident. Be positive always. This is the most important tip I got
before I started my interviews and I would like to share it with you. It
will be hard to keep a balanced attitude when you are mixed with all the
other competitive AMGs and received no or little attention. I think the
process of Match is the most depressing thing I have ever done. There were
times I felt desperate. What I did was to think what I would no if I could
not match and realize it could also be OK. The bottom line is, you can not
let others feel you are desperate because if you do, you are done.
2. What to brag about during interview. Brag about your research experience,
not too much but a little bit. Brag about your clinical experience back in
China. In our program, clinical experience is a BIG deal. If you have
practiced for years before, they feel that they are hiring an attending with
intern's salary. You should feel proud about too.
3. Be smart. Be funny. I am not saying you should be goofy. I mean you
should be smartly funny because funny people are not boring and easy to
remember.
4. Be prepared. I think it is easy to lose it if I had not prepared well. I
have done mock interviews with my husband for many many times about
questions that I think may come up. It also gives you idea of what to talk
about even if you are confronted with new questions.
5. The last tip- I think the most truthful- is that there is just that much
you can do. I secretly believe that the program has an idea who they want
and who come last even before the interviews start. The medical schools, the
visa status, the number of years post graduation are all key factors and
may be the only criteria they go by with. In those cases, no matter how well
you do with your interview, it will not matter. I think the purpose of
interview is to know who they do not want in the program ( in fact there
were quite a few AMGs due to personality problems). I think we should do our
best, and let it be. The " let it be" part is the hardest but I believe
everything happens for a reason and for a purpose.

Be confident and relax is the key of a sucessful IV. However, with only few
IVs in hand, it is hard to show the confidence, so practicing mock iv is
extremely important.
Many time it is true that program had a rough idea on who to take before the
IV, however, IV performance can also make you stand out. It could be
especially true for IM, toooo many interviwees a day really make
interviewers look for some fresh air. | d******g

intern's salary". This applies more in less competitive, labor-intensive programs. Most of better programs want a piece of white paper, so that they can write on that piece of paper whatever they plan to. |
