after Wednesday's speed work I felt a bit tightness in my soleus muscle just
above my right ankle. It didn't seem to be a big deal at the time, but just
hours after I finished my workout it became a fully blown inflammation and
hurt when I walked. In my past experience, an injury that shows up all of a
sudden AFTER a run is usually not so serious and should be only temporary.
Yesterday in my recovery run it started to hurt after just a mile and I cut
the run short at three miles. The inflammation did not reduce last night,
and it was clear that I must skip my mid long run today. That ended a 60-day
running streak. I may have to skip tomorrow's run as well. Will take this
opportunity to strengthen my core muscles and lose some weight by dieting
maybe.
Clearly, my recent injury has to do with the fact that I didn't properly
build up my base through forefoot running -- I have had a mileage base with
midfoot running, but when I switched to forefoot all together in August, the
tendons below my calfs weren't ready, and now I'm paying for it after a
couple months. This'll be a lesson.

high mileage, high risk.
Take a good rest and let your body fully recover.
I actually should do some core strengthening as well. Have not done it for a
long time.

take care.. i am also trying to build up my mileage with more forefoot
running. i also feel some degree of discomfort in my calves and ankles.

Take a good rest, man!
And what are "forefoot running" and "midfoot running"? These terms sound so
advanced to me. How do I know if I'm forefoot or midfoot? or maybe even
rearfoot?

也许没必要每次fore-foot landing?比如easy, recovery, long run mid-foot就可以
了,workout的时候速度一快,自然就fore-foot了.

It's not an AT problem, although the inflamed muscle/tendon is very close to
AT (but on the side).

nah these are just terms I made up.:) By forefoot running I meant my foot
hits the ground on the front, whereas in forefoot running the foot strikes
on the outside edge.

Actually for me there is no correlation between footstrike and speed at all
(with the exception of sprints). I feel just as comfortable in long distance
as opposed to mile repeats in doing forefoot strike. It feels extremely
natural to me.

been off running for 3 days now. there is still inflammation and a little
bit of localized swelling. it is now clear that I had a bit tear in the
tendon connecting my soleus muscle to the ankle. the injury was worse than I
expected initially, and it was wise to skip my workouts all together. will
see if I can do a recovery run tomorrow. if not, I may need to adjust my
goals at CIM and change my training plan altogether.

I will be flying around the earth for a month after CIM, so I can't do a 24-
week plan for Boston. Walked around in VFF today and didn't feel anything,
so looks like I'm ready to do a little running tomorrow.
