et in one of Canada's premier destination areas, IRONMAN Muskoka becomes the
14th event in the IRONMAN North America Series.
The inaugural IRONMAN Muskoka will take place on Sunday, August 30, 2015. In
addition to the announcement of the new full-distance event, IRONMAN 70.3
Muskoka will be moved to July, making it a perfect training opportunity for
the new race.
Set in south-central Ontario’s premier vacation and cottage country, the
Muskoka region has a rich triathlon history. The region hosted the 1992 ITU
World Triathlon Championship and for years offered a premier event that was
part of the Triathlon Pro Tour. In 1991 Triathlon Magazine Canada declared
the Muskoka race one of the ten best triathlon destinations—before the
event had even taken place!
The pristine forest getaway offers beautiful and rugged landscape and is
dotted with hundreds of clean, clear lakes, rivers and streams, while the
rolling forested hills are punctuated with dramatic rock outcroppings.
The region's many friendly and picturesque small communities offer places
where visitors can take advantage of the laid-back, relaxed lifestyle.
Muskoka also boasts a number of lakefront cottage resorts where guests can
relax and regenerate while taking in the area’s history and beauty. Outdoor
activities of all kinds abound, including the world-famous Algonquin and
Arrowhead Provincial Parks.
Huntsville, the site of IRONMAN Muskoka, is a vibrant community with a
diverse selection of world-class restaurants, shopping, theatre, events and
festivals, parks and museums. Visit a museum, hike a pristine trail, star
gaze, relax in front of a bonfire, swim or fish in sparkling waters, sip
local wine or beer on a dock, get up close and personal with wildlife,
pamper yourself at a spa, or enjoy one of the many events and festivals that
reflect Muskoka's charm. The region has something for everyone, both
athletes and spectators alike.
IRONMAN Muskoka will lead athletes through a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike
and 26.2-mile run that takes place in the beautiful Deerhurst Resort and the
surrounding scenic areas of Muskoka. The 2.4 -mile, one-loop swim takes
place in picturesque Peninsula Lake. The 112-mile bike course circles Lake
of Bays, passing through the small communities of Dwight, Dorset, and
Baysville. The 26.2 -mile run will take you through Muskoka County and
downtown Huntsville—past pink granite rock and cascading waterfalls—before
finishing at Deerhurst Resort.
This race offers 50 qualifying slots to the 2016 IRONMAN World Championship
in Hawaii.

For the 183km, the group must have gone 750m further than they should have.
Trust me, I wouldnt' want to go any further than 180km....we in fact
discussed about shortening it up to account for the elevation...but then we
looked at the discussion of the "140.6ish" comments. Thus, we are staying
with 180km for the bike.
Here is a link to the original Garmin file that was uploaded to Strava. I
would like to thank Brian and his crew for going out and getting this for me
while I worked.... For some reason when I created a route under my profile
from his data, it increased the elevation almost 500m!
Bike on The Beast = 180km. I love this course and wouldn't have put it
