By Rev. Andrew Tsai
Dishonor
Dislike
Depart

God Is Fair
Today's Scripture "You call on a Father who judges each person’s work
impartially." 1 Peter 1:17 NIV
Thoughts for Today
God's Word offers hope to sons and daughters who have been handed down
dysfunctional pain. First, God is fair. He "judges each man's work
impartially." Children raised by an abusive or neglectful father often have
an incorrect view of God, imagining Him to be like their earthly father. The
good news is our heavenly Father is perfect and fair.
However, God's impartiality does not take away our personal responsibility.
Although genetic inheritance and social surroundings may influence us, they
do not eliminate our responsibility to God. We have the freedom; and
responsibility; to make our own choices. We are not locked into our earthly
father's way of life. Even if we have been raised by a dysfunctional or
abusive earthly father, we can choose to follow our heavenly Father and
serve Him.
Consider this …
No matter what your background, God has given you a choice. If you grew up
in a dysfunctional home, will you continue that dysfunctional pattern in
your life? Or will you choose to break out of that futile lifestyle and
build your life on the foundation of God's love and righteousness?
"Choose today whom you will serve. . . . But as for me and my family, we
will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 NLT
Prayer
Father, I thank you that you are perfect and fair. And I thank you that you
have given me the privelege; and responsibility; to choose how I will live.
I choose to follow You. Help me serve you faithfully and make wise choices
day by day. In Jesus' name . . .

By Rev. Andrew Tsai

Carrying Charge
Live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since
she is a woman. 1 PETER 3:7
Each fall, a ski resort in Maine hosts an event that is little known to the
rest of the nation: the North American Wife Carrying Championship. To
compete, husbands transport their wives through a hilly, 278-yard obstacle
course that includes a 20-foot trough of water and 2 log hurdles. They can
carry their wives in whatever way suits their running style—piggyback,
fireman's carry or the more popular "Estonian" method, with the wife upside
down across his back, legs crossed around his neck, arms held around his
waist. The only enforceable rule is that she not touch the ground.
Ex-Olympians are sometimes among the contestants, while others are probably
just there hoping for the first prize: the wife's weight in beer, plus five
times her weight in cash and a thousand-dollar voucher toward a trip to the
World Wife-Carrying Championship in Finland. (I'm serious.)
Admittedly, this event sounds a bit crude and primitive. But there is
nothing archaic about a wife needing her husband to carry her sometimes—to
be her strength during a tough stretch of circumstances, to stand with her
in prayer, to be the broad shoulders she leans on when life gets heavy.
Yes, I've "dropped" Barbara a few times over the years. But I've had the
privilege of shouldering her load in life-and-death health issues, a
teenager's rebellion and dozens of those pesky parenting issues that can
wear a mom down.
We have our own race to run and it's an honor to carry her.
Husbands, be there for your wife. Listen. Care. And if need be, carry her.
And, wives, don't try to do it all by yourself. Lean on your husband. Let
him help you. God will give him the strength. We need to be there for each
other.
DISCUSS
Husbands, do you "carry" your wife well? What is one area of life right now
where you need to be doing a better job of bearing her load?
PRAY
Pray that you will learn appropriate dependence on each other.

By Rev. Andrew Tsai

Special People for Special Times
by Charles R. Swindoll
Read 1 Kings 16:29–17:1
God looks for special people at difficult times. God needed a special man to
shine the light in the blackness of those days. But God didn't find him in
the palace or the court. He didn't find him walking around with his head
down in the school of the prophets. He didn't even find him in the homes of
the ordinary people. God found him in Tishbeh, of all places. A man who
would stand in the gap couldn't be suave or slick; he had to be rugged—soft
-hearted with a tough hide.
God looked for somebody who had the backbone to stand alone. Someone who had
the courage to say, "That's wrong!" Someone who could stand toe to toe with
an idolatrous king and his wicked wife and proclaim, "God is God."
I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the
gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no
one. (Ezekiel 22:30)
In our culture—our schools, our offices and factories, our lunchrooms and
boardrooms, our halls of ivy and our halls of justice—we need men and women
of God, including young people of God. We need respected professionals,
athletes, homemakers, teachers, public figures, and private citizens who
will promote the things of God, who will stand alone—stand tall, stand firm
, stand strong!
How's your stature? How's your integrity? Have you corrupted your principles
just to stay in business? To get a good grade? To make the team? To be with
the "in" crowd? To earn the next rank or promotion? Have you winked at
language or behavior that a few years ago would have horrified you? Are you,
right now, compromising morally because you don't want to be considered a
prude?
Those who find comfort in the court of Ahab can never bring themselves to
stand in the gap with Elijah.

By Rev. Andrew Tsai

Loving God by Mike Bickle
When all the elders of Israelhad come to King David at Hebron, the king made
a compact with them at Hebronbefore the Lord, and they anointed David king
over Israel. —2 Samuel 5:3
David waited for the season of God's promotion. It arrived one day when
Ishbosheth was murdered by wicked men. David had arrived. This season of
Zionspeaks to us of the full release of what God promised David during his
earthly lifetime. This is when the full prophetic destiny for our lives
begins to be manifest. David would soon capture Jerusalem, referred to as "
Zion" in Scripture, and set up his capital there instead of Gibeah. There is
no substitute for the confidence we feel upon arriving at our destiny in
God's time and in His way. Many people work hard to get their ministry
moving and happening. They strive at work to attain a certain position. But
sometimes they feel God hasn't moved fast enough on their behalf, so they
hurry it along with unholy manipulation. They may get the position or
prominence they want, but they lack any confidence in it. They are consumed
with fear that somebody will take over their territory or steal their
position. They live with anxiety because they can't be sure God gave the
ministry or position to them in the first place. They have built on a faulty
foundation. Beloved, I exhort you for the sake of your purpose and destiny
in this life, allow God to take you to your Zion! You either arrive
legitimately with the confidence of heaven behind you, or you arrive
illegitimately and riddled with anxiety.
{ PRAYER STARTER }
Father, stay my hands from hindering Your plan for me with unholy
manipulation. Keep the fear and anxiety of human position from destroying me
. Raise me up and set my feet on the path to Zion.
Don't step out of line; don't rush.
There is no second best in this.

By Rev. Andrew Tsai

So Abram left, as the Lord had told him. (Genesis 12:4)
Constantin Caraman
The next few meditations are about ordinary people who did extraordinary
things.
People who blessed those who persecuted them.
People like Enoch who walked with God in a world of haste.
People like Job who trusted the Lord for better or for worse.
Is this not what God expects from us as well? If He does - He enables.
Abraham seems to have had a mission that was impossible. Emigrating at the
age of 75, leaving his country; without even knowing where to go.
Abraham heard and obeyed the Word of the Lord. No objections like, "Lord,
are You quite sure? Here in Ur are many more possibilities to serve You.
This is the cultural, commercial and political centre of the world." No,
Abraham obeyed God unconditionally. And God changed his name: Abram (father
of height) became Abraham (father of a multitude).
Abraham did an unusual thing which made him tower above all others (father
of height) and as such he became a source of blessing (father of a multitude
).
Abraham, God's friend.
What was his secret? Unconditional obedience to the Lord.
Writer for the month - Constantin Caraman from Romania was in prison three
times for his faith.

By Rev. Andrew Tsai

Just Say "No"
Luke 5:15-16: Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of
people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus
often withdrew to lonely places and prayed (NIV).
Parenting puts tremendous demands on our time and energy. These demands can
start before our kids get up in the morning, and last long after they've
fallen asleep. In addition, we often find ourselves meeting the needs of
others in our family, work and friendships.
Jesus knows the extent of your weariness. He was besieged by thousands of
His children when they discovered he could heal the sick and perform
miracles. There was no end to the ingenious ways they used to touch Him and
get a little of His time (see Luke 5:18-19). He recognized the huge demand
for His time.
But, Jesus also knew the only way He could deal with the demand for His time
was to spend time alone with His father to rest, pray and recharge His
batteries. It wasn't selfish; it was the most loving thing He could do for
His children. It gave Him the energy and strength to deal with their many
issues.
Sometimes, saying "no" in order to spend some quality time with your
Heavenly Father is the most loving thing you can do for your kids.

By Rev. Andrew Tsai

Stop Rewinding
Today's Scripture
"Dear children, let's not merely say that we love each other; let us show
the truth by our actions." John 3:18NLT
Thoughts for Today
Has someone you cared about mistreated you? Hurt you deeply? Even though
years may have passed, you might still harbor resentment and anger. And that
unforgiveness is most likely affecting other relationships—maybe even your
whole outlook on life. Try as you might to forget the offense, you find
yourself rewinding and reviewing again and again.
You will never be able to overcome the hurt of the past and move on freely
with your life until you forgive the offender.
Consider this …
As we prepare to begin a new year, determine to be active in your pursuit to
forgive. Begin to change your thought pattern about the person. Ask God to
help you see this individual with eyes of love, looking beyond fault and
seeing need. When you speak about the person, speak of needs and strengths—
not offenses and weaknesses. Pray for this person and, if possible, take
action to do something nice for him or her.
Forgiveness is not easy, especially when the hurt is deep. It helps to
remember what Jesus did for us. Even though we certainly didn't deserve
forgiveness, he died on the cross to pay the price for our sin. He offers us
forgiveness as a gift. Let us be willing to offer others the gift of our
forgiveness.
Prayer
Father, help me to be active in my pursuit to forgive. Help me to see this
person through your eyes. Help me to speak and think good and not bad about
him. Help me to offer the gift of my forgiveness. In Jesus' name …

By Rev. Andrew Tsai

Forgiveness for a Price
Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a
multitude of sins. 1 PETER 4:8
I don't know anything at all about what caused it, what led up to it or even
what came of it. But I'm sure it was hard for people not to notice a full-
page ad in the Jacksonvillenewspaper one morning that read: "Please believe
the words in my letter. They are true from my heart. I can only hope you
will give me the chance to prove my unending love for you. Life without you
is empty and meaningless."
It was a full-page $17,000 advertisement and plea for forgiveness.
According to the ad's author, his wife of 17 years had left him two weeks
earlier. She was living temporarily with her parents in a gated community,
beyond the reach of her husband. Even her cell-phone number had been changed
to keep him from contacting her. But relatives told him that she had indeed
seen the large display ad and had left the room crying.
I pray that they were able to work things out. But—again, not knowing the
circumstances—this still goes to show you that marriage, unlike any other
human relationship, is the joining of two hearts into one flesh. The pain of
living at a distance, even temporarily, feels like a limb being torn away.
We can't think straight. We can't enjoy ourselves.
That's why your marriage must be a place where mercy and forgiveness are
regularly being asked for and extended. Given, received and embraced. None
of us are able to always be everything our spouse wants us to be. But only
through the power of grace and forgiveness can you live through seasons of
disappointment—with yourself and with one another—and come out feeling
united again.
It might even save you $17,000 and even more heartache.
DISCUSS
Is there anything between you two today? Anything that you need to ask
forgiveness for . . . or forgive one another for . . . right now? Just do it.
PRAY
Thank the Lord for His full forgiveness of us and for the ability to extend
the same to each other.

By Rev. Andrew Tsai

Our Obstacle Course by Charles R. Swindoll
Read 1 Kings 17:5–7
So he did what the LORD had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine,
east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and
meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the
brook.
Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the
land.
Part of every boot camp experience is the grueling, grinding, and
sometimes daunting obstacle course. It is neither fun nor easy, but its
demanding discipline prepares the recruit for whatever situations he or she
may face in the future, particularly under enemy fire.
In the spiritual life, before we can truly benefit from "the hidden
life" that God uses to prepare us for whatever future He has planned for us,
we must overcome at least four major obstacles. I think of them asfour
tough membranes of the flesh:pride, fear, resentment, and long-standing
habits. Conquering these layers of resistance will prepare us for the future
and harden us for combat with the adversary.
In a very real sense, God has designed a boot camp for His children, but it
doesn't last just eight weeks or ten weeks. Nor is it a weekend seminar we
can take or a day-long workshop we can attend. God's training course takes
place periodically throughout the Christian life. And there, in the very
center of obstacles and pain and solitude, we come to realize how alive God
is in our lives—how alive and in charge. He will invade us, reduce us,
break us, and crush us, so that we will become the people He intends us to
be.
No matter how many years we walk with the Lord, we must still, at times,
pass through our own Gethsemane. It happens every time He sends us to the
brook to live the hidden life. It happens every time He disorients us as He
displaces us; every time He pulls out all the props; every time He takes
away more of the comforts; every time He removes most of the "rights" we
once enjoyed. And He does all this so that He can mold us into the person
that we otherwise never would be. He knows what He's about.
Elijah went to Cherish as an energetic spokesman for God—a prophet. He
emerged from Cherish as a deeper man of God. All this happened because he
was left beside a brook that dried up. Alone, but not forgotten. Tested, but
not abandoned.
