problem is simple: you listen to your superviser in medical research grants.
But you also apply for methodology grants as PI. I doubt a doctor will
bother you if you apply for a NSF statistics grant.
I have always separated the two parts. In fact, my publication list on my CV
has two parts: statistical methodology and biomedical research.But in order
to get your boss' support for the former, you have to do a very good job |

variable analysis. Basically you need to find a reasonable instrumental
variable, it has to be related to your independent variable but not
associated with your outcome. Then you will need to run simultaneous two
equations for the analysis to control for selection bias.
Biostatisticians like to use the propensity score to control for selection
bias, but some health services researches don't believe it. |

or called "confounders".

那继续做理论没啥前途了,转生统吧，做做应用挺好的
先和系里大牛搞好关系,带你出去见见大PI们
自己也多出去和其他PI们交流
参与几个项目申请,做biostatistician配角，一般10%-20% effort
其间找个合适topic，整自己的R01
一般来说，一个应用,先支持数据收集（巨大项目），一轮应用分析（U01），剩下几轮
小鱼小虾的R01 |

anderson
的postdoc.不知道该如何选择呢... 1.选后者的好处: 对学术fame没大的追求,也没打
算去拼名校,本人很懒,就是看中学校稳定,假期多. 药厂这一行目前感觉不太稳定, 听
到好多lay off的传闻,不过至于biostatistician的职位lay off的不知道多不多,加上
身份是个考虑. 另外本人比较内向,不是很会玩office politics的人,对职业生涯考虑
的也不多, 不是太爱管人, 就是想安安稳稳的work life balance.
2.选前者好处:老公还在东部读phd,离他近些(两小时飞机),他还有三年毕业,他们专业
一般只能走academia. 还有就是药厂的钱多,工作听说不太累. faculty会不会很累?而
且如果去不了名校,成为牛人,就很难跳槽了?以后不太容易跟老公团聚....
总之很纠结,希望各位谈谈你们的看法. |

目上了现在.
你说的很对有文章和课题是正道,课题在申请. 就怕3年找理由不续约,到时候找工作就
晚了.
我们这第一年就是70%的soft money,每年递减(实际上star-up是够付50-60%工资的,只
让用30%...). 前一个所谓合作者是指定的. 我也是这么跟系主任说的,那人要的全都是
劳工根本不尊重我们的劳动. 系主任说他在招2个MS biostatistician,等他招到MS你就
轻松了,问题是都招了1年了 ... 所以最后就终止合作了. |

Background: 排名20多的学校拿的生物类PhD，非常非常不喜欢做bench work，所以刚
毕业又花了一年半时间读了一个biostatistics的master，不是名校。所以我是典型的
生物转生统。
今年年底将master毕业，暑假在大厂做了一个生统的intern，8月份开始投简历，JSM开
会时有4个面试，后来四个面试都给了onsite，据了其中一个academy的onsite，去了另
外那三家onsite，先后都给了offer。后来暑假实习的公司也给了offer。这几个offer
都是entry-level biostatistician, 其中一个是top的药厂，一个是top的medical

1. 我感觉summer intern 对我找工作的帮助真的很大，一个雇主就和我说，fresh
stat/biostat的master实在太多了，乍一眼看上去简历都很类似，但是有个intern在简
历上，就立刻拔高了。调动所有resources来找intern机会, 比如job posting, 朋友推
荐，校园information session, alumina network，etc。
2. 之前听说生统master很难进药厂，也听人说很多生统master都是做SAS
programmer，看来大概也不尽然，我的几个offer大都是biostatistician，所以生统
master们要有信心。
3. 不止一个employer告诉我，我的PhD degree将来会在promotion中被考虑。所以
打算quit PhD的筒子们再考虑考虑，还要多久可以拿下PhD，要是时间不太久，那么把
PhD拿下来大概是有益无害的。
4. 面试时间上最好安排的巧一些，以免选择offer时为难。我把几个面试选择在前
后相差一个多礼拜的样子，基本上前 |

但我的research 和药厂的不相关，递的简历hr直接就说不match,连phone interview都
没有一个。我对自己research的方向很不感兴趣，很想能找到biostatistician的相关
工作。现在看来只能先做个intern之类的。但intern 要等到明年summer了，我现在老

发帖数: 1152 | 37 三周前在这里发帖叨叨面试归来的沮丧情绪，昨天又去了一个on-site，感觉大不一样
。这个位置在中部中型城市，二流大学医学院里的专业职位（非faculty），薪酬自然
比前面说的公司要低，但是据说办身份会容易点？另一个优点是title很理想，Sr.
Biostatistician，是我以后想要发展的方向。我是工业工程毕业，没有bio和医学背景
，如果拿到这一职位，算是完成了最初的身份转换。
说起来有点weird，这个职位我一年前申请过，被turned down，但是一年后他们又打电
话给我，说是职位又空出来，上次对我印象不错，让我再回去面试。我最开始有点担心
这里工作文化问题（为什么一个职位干了一年就走了），不过后来打消了这个想法。
首先见的是老板，来自南卡的行业内著名医生，主要聊了一些系里目前的项目，简单地
做了两个SAS测试（极其简单那种），了解了一下我的技能。感觉上这位老板对我的背
景持相当肯定的态度。
然后见的是项目经理，几乎只是由她介绍一些项目情况及工作常态。
最后是staff manager，也完全没有问我问题，介绍了一些工资福利方面的情况，然后
说了一些恭维我人品的话。

学校是否办绿卡：程序不是完全清楚，但是可能还是要自己办，学校只是提供必要的文
件。
公司会否办：目前没有offer，从insider提供的消息来看，比较积极，但是可能只能是
EB2。
专业职位指什么：我也不知道怎么说。title是Senior Research Biostatistician，不
是tenure track。
学校今天来信，必须在周三回复，公司方面明天可能会有消息（七天），不过即使有消
息，也不一定是firm offer。所以综合来看，会去学校了。

发帖数: 120 | 40 我和楼主同一个专业，在学校里工作。讲讲我的看法。
如果我是你，除非是 Assistant Professor 及以上的位置， 我不会考虑学校。或者是
特别牛的学校，如哈佛等级别的学校的 biostatistician，可能还可以暂时接受，但过
几年还是会去公司，因为在学校里除了 faculty，其他职位真的没什么发展空间。
据我所知，大部分学校都不会给 statistician 办绿卡，最多给你写些推荐信，你需要
自己申请绿卡。
而大的公司，一般都给办绿卡，全部由公司出钱请律师办。如果你的 record 比较好，
公司会给你办 Eb1b。
总之，以我的了解，大公司不管是在钱上，还是办绿卡上，都比学校好很多。学校除非
是 professor 的位子，我不建议考虑。楼主可向学校说你很严肃的考虑他们的 offer
，在做最后决定前，你需要了解更多的信息，问有关绿卡或其他的问题，以拖延时间。
很多人的策略就是，不断地问问题，以拖延时间，同时催促公司尽快给答复。 |

。貌似HR用了一套说辞使HM老板相信过程困难无比。今天争取到了十五分钟的时间跟HM
老板面谈，并阐释加急处理的概念。他答应继续考虑。
现在我想再写个邮件给HM老板，给他继续进一步澄清并争取机会。请教各位我如何最有
效率地说服他呢？
另外，我听说加急处理最快几天就可以上班（学校没有caps的限制），真有那么快吗？

硕士有两年学校经验，随老公搬到加州，现在家看小孩。
拿到一个医院的offer, 6万5，是biostatistician 的起薪 （range 6万5 到8 万5），
感觉hiring manager 很抠门， 我都有经验了为什么给entry 的价格？
后来侧面打听了一下，说这个老板比较 tough, 看来给钱抠门的别的方面也好不到哪里
去。
去的话担心推荐信不好，这个圈子没法混了
不去又怕gap 太长，现在工作不好找，经济也差了

本人在SD一家Biotech公司（500人左右）工作。最近组里在招 next generation
sequencing 方面的人。主要是做统计分析，clinical diagnostic方面的工作。
要求统计，数学背景好，有Programming (R/Perl/sql), data mining 方面的经验。最
好是处理过sequencing data，有hands-on experience的。
待遇还可以，fresh phd 起薪 95K左右 + bonus + stock （当然没法跟AMFLG比。。）
。有工作经验的会更高些。

national data bank的数据。现在想跳槽到公司去，根据lz自己的了解，可能去保险公
司的
Biostatistician或者信用卡公司的Statistician可能性比较大。想问一下如果去公司
，现在的工作经验是不是都不算？还有，lz想去德州那边，有什么公司有这样的职位的
