Most Taiwanese restaurants are in Queens - either in Flushing or in Elmhurst
. There aren't that many Taiwanese restaurants in Manhattan and I am sorry
to say that I have no idea what it's like in Brooklyn.
The Taiwanese restaurants in Flushing are pretty much the home style, i.e.,
nothing extravagant. Here are 3 popular ones (listed in no particular order
).

Maybe Taiwan had 招待所 when Generalissimo Chinag Kai-sjek came to Taiwan. (
In colonial time, Taiwanese seldom if ever spoke Mandarin; people spoke
Japanese or Taiwanese.) Gradually government agencies or private companies
did not have amenities any more, such as barber shops, clinics, etc. I don't
think many Taiwanese knew what it was around the time when I left Taiwan in

However, if you are from Taiwan, or if you know Taiwan, you will know
Taiwanese parents are worse than this. Taiwanese parents will do EVERYTHING
to keep their children under their ABSOLUTE control. I have heard of a lot
of horror stories. I am sure perhaps one or two Taiwanese will jump out to
have a shouting match with me. But my statement is truth, so I don't care.

For years, Chinese from PRC have ridiculed Taiwanese as descendants of 小黑
人 (in other times, they claim Taiwanese are Chinese or descendants of
Chinese, which is not correct; for most Taiwanese are "mutts" as Mr. Obama
called himself a few days ago). (I myself is pure Cantonese.)
Today there is a report talking about 小黑人, as if it is a real thing. I do
not know what to say. Back in Taiwan, nobody heard of it (when I was there)

amazing.
Taiwanese should have placed the natural gas heater outside the building--
and should never encase the balcony and place a heater there. Moreover,
Taiwanese should place a carbon monoxide detector in every home! It has been
the law in Massachusetts since 2005, besides the fire alarm (batteries for
both have to be checked and replaced as manufacturers dictate).
