l********y 发帖数: 1327 | 1 need to tell everybody again about squats
squats is the top 1 practice of all, not "one of"!
but everything comes with a price, the higher the value, the higher price
the price of squats is its danger of injury, it is the highest injury prone
movement of all, not "one of"!
I see more and more ppl on this board are doing 5x5 or 3x5, it's good but
you should know your physical limit before you start.
generally speaking, as a amateur, if you weight < 180lb, your "safe" range
should be below 185lb. if you weight around 200lb or above, you can try
higher numbers, but as a life long training, I wouldn't recommend higher
than 275lb.
I don't give a shit about what rippetoe or other trainer say, or what xxx
book or xxx paper or xxx website has an article about it...
let me ask you, do you train with rippetoe or any other trainer everyday?
if not, go light weight, slow but solid progress. | m*******r 发帖数: 13263 | 2 good form is #1...whenever I feel my form is about to break or a bit

stage. Now I got an excuse not to squat over 200lbs. ;-)
linkthesky, what is the base of your point?

| l********y 发帖数: 1327 | 7 it's based experience..
it's only for amateurs with limited resource to training, if you are
ambitious to go high, you can go as heavy as 300lb, 400lb, etc.
but like I said, experience told me normal people with duty in life cannot
train like pros. improve slowly is the only safe way to success.

her weight or 185lbs is the limit for <180lbs person? | l********y 发帖数: 1327 | 10 case by case, somebody has great width of thigh by gene, when start training
he can already squat 185, he may be able to push a little bit higher. but
average joe stays around his body weight + 20,30 lbs is obviously a wise
decision if you cannot train like a pro.
in my definition,
train like a pro = dedicated 4 times training a week
dedicated = abundant time of training + abundant time of rest
= every time before you train you feel like it is a sunshine
spring afternoon around 4:30pm when you were 17, school is just over and you
were so free and energized and about to play basketball or football with
your friends till lights off

state -- sunshine. But I'll take weight + 20-30lbs one from you. Thanks.

| s**********n 发帖数: 1485 | 12 Make a Middle-Aged-Guy-with-Kid like me despair... Haha.
But indeed very good point. My kid usually wakes me up 1 - 2 times every
night. I tried 5x5 and was totally exhausted around 1.5 bw squat. Feel like
"holy crap have to do 5x5 again today" every time. Also even 45mins in gym (
with driving to/back, taking shower etc it becomes as long as 1.5 hr) every
other day makes scheduling very very hard.
Plan to spend some time do body-weight and kettlebell exercises now.
