after tax traditional IRA是如何放的?与是否有401K和pre-tax traditional IRA有
关吗? |

That's not what I read from Pub590A.

That's what recharacterization means?
And do you really think you can transfer funds between IRA and Roth IRA back
and forth in the same tax year?

f*******n 发帖数: 12623 | 8 Yes, "recharacterization" includes two types of things: 1) retroactively
changing the nature of a contribution between Traditional and Roth, and 2)
retroactively undoing a Roth IRA conversion. You can undo a Roth IRA
conversion but you are banned from "re-conversion" within a certain amount
of time.

b**l 发帖数: 44 | 9 The question is, can the OP do that after IRS questions the conversion from
IRA to Roth IRA? I think if it is in the same tax year, it is okay. If it is
in a different tax year already, you cannot do that.
And yes, there is no reconversion.
In fact, I think recharacterization should be avoided in this case. A
rollover to Roth IRA is what is needed for the back door. A recharacterized
contribution is no longer treated as an IRA contribution, instead, it is
treated as a Roth contribution and the income limit applies. An IRA
contribution does not have that, and the rollover preserves the original
contribution's tax treatment as an IRA contribution.

f*******n 发帖数: 12623 | 10 No. A backdoor Roth IRA contribution = A Traditional IRA contribution + a
conversion to Roth IRA. The recharacterization undoes the conversion, so you
are left with a Traditional IRA as if there was never a conversion. None of
this has anything to do with Roth IRA contribution.
Of course, keeping a non-deductible Traditional IRA contribution may not be
beneficial. But that's another issue.
