都没有写过，也不了解写代码的methodology，所以看着代码一样就当个宝贝，以为是
进化了。
从码农的角度告诉你吧，你看到不同物种代码类似，很多重复的东西，应该是更加怀疑
，二不是确信。
因为码农都是天天到github上抄代码，不同项目大量代码相似是普遍现象，没人从头做

一些。然后粗略看了一下两个ranking用的methodology。有几个体会：
一，US news 更注重研究的产出和影响，对研究生和发考题可能更有参考性；QS 更注
重综合的因素，对本科生可能更有参考性。
二，US news 的指标同时注重了研究的总量和影响力。中国的一些高校排名高，可能和
总体size大有关，即便在影响力上还不突出。而我们对一个学校的印象通常更多取决于
影响力而不是总体产出，这个可能是有些情况下直觉与排名不太一致的一个原因。
三，绝大部分的研究还是离不开资源，特别是工科的，中国和亚洲的一些国家高校排名
升高，应该和最近几年世界经济重心东移有关，亚洲经济的崛起给科研同时带来了资源
和需求，虽然从 imitation 到真正的 innovation 可能还有很长一段路要走。

个有substantive意义的方向（比如，疾病预防，社区治疗）上有自己的见解，能拿来
funding。我这么多年都是在搞心理统计，就懂得一些心理和社会统计学方法和应用。
对有substantive意义的方向（比如，疾病预防，社区治疗）皮毛都不知道（当然这点
也要怪我偷懒），要叫我去拿funding,太难啦。其实我们要做Postdoc，只适合做那种
专搞methodology的postdoc，但这种postdoc全美国都没几个（而且必须是博士毕业5年
内）。一般NIH只会给methodology的大牛一些勉勉强强的funding,这些大牛一般都是自
己做。再说我的统计学是半路出家，根基不深，要叫我跟上这些大牛，也不容易。所以
很不好意思地说，我是methodology或substantive research的postdoc都作不了。
当然有人会说统计学不是挺好找工作的吗？那是行外人的热闹。即使是在统计学里，我
这也是偏门，看看我在statistics版上的帖子，就知道半年也许不够。 |

In terms of productivity US is head and shoulders above the rest, and
advaces at faster pace than before. Europe is falling behind. Taiwan and S

我们GROUP 里面原来是本公司CAD的核心，本来公司有大概上百号CAD ENGINEER做IN
HOUSE TOOLS. 但是慢慢都被三大公司的TOOL代替，从Direct以下全部转方向。几个
team从TOOL design 变成 methodology group.
现在新的工具，语言，方法太多， 能够很好地用好这些TOOL并且提供一个methodology
还是有需求的。 尤其在system level design, verification这些新方向上. 比如用最
新的methodology开发一个模块然后推广给其他design team. |

据说google对人大脑结构都有影响。这几年据说人脑管短期记忆的区域越来越发达，因
为受到的锻炼多。
我这一代，80年代初期，从小学就开始玩电脑。但是其实我也是一直在图形界面伴随下
长大的。直到现在，我还不能熟练运用vi, emacs。还是一直用VS.Net和eclipse。
这么多年，我还是不习惯盲打。基本上还要不时喵一下键盘。我老爸，搞了一辈子计算
机，现在70多了还自己设计电路板，写Linux和Windows程序。也不会盲打。
我的记忆力也不差。几十万行程序都能记得清清楚楚。这些年我一直培养的忘性。不该
记的要尽快忘掉。
我认为，信息时代，大家的区别在于你是否知道别人不知道一些东西。这里面，有知识
，也有方法，更重要的是方法论（Methodology）。
关于methodology，就属所谓的Software development methodology花样最多。我个人
的原则其实就是奥卡姆剃刀。砍掉任何无用的环节，部件和人员。得到一个简洁，有效
的系统。我在本版写过一篇文章，简单就是美。其实就是我的审美观。 |
