有个想法,能不能用two-photon做蛋白自带的PHE/TRP/TYR的荧光?这样不是省了标记
分子的尾大不掉的干扰作用吗?
280nm的吸收,two-photon波长加倍,560nm应该不难做到。而且氨基酸处于不同的化学
环境,其中的吸收发射谱可能会有细微差别,如果能把这些差别定性定量化,就可成为
一种新的方法。
当然,带的芳香族残基比较多的话,解谱是个麻烦事。

ZL1999 (胖头猫)提到了confocal和一般fluoresent microscopy的区别,除了有一点我
不太认同,根据我的理解,confocal microscopy的photobleaching问题应该比一般的
fluoresent microscopy要小,因为前者illuminate smaller volume of your sample。
如果你要做的是培养的细胞,你可以不用改protocal,我一般用8-well chamber slide

名单里出现了好几个大陆培养出来的人,包括Shoucheng Zhang (Quantum Hall effect
), Peidong Yang (nanowire photonics)。 如果Zhang 获奖的话,清华和复旦一定要
乐死了。(他是复旦校友,也是清华的兼职教授,Quantum Hall effect的实验有一个
是在清华做的)。
另外还有香港的Ching W. Tang (OLED)。
我的感觉是OLED 的得奖概率最高。Quantum Hall effect有一定可能性,但未必会是今
年就拿。
nanowire photonics很牛比,相当与是开启了一个应用物理的新门路。但是现在还有点
早,因为工业应用的例子还很少。按照炸药奖对于应用物理的习惯一般会等几年等大家
都用开来了才给,不太可能现在就给。而且这个项目里居然只列了Peidong Yang一个人
的名字而没有其他大牛作陪,所以我的感觉是很难会给他(如果真的给了话科大要乐死
了)。但是过上10年,或者在10年内吧,这个项目很有希望。

dissociation of N2. You said there is resonant ionization by laser. I
would ask what kind of you are using, especially for the pulse duration and
wavelength.
Let's consider this problem in two ways:
1. Suppose what you have seen is really Nitrogen atomic ion. The most
likely mechanism should be Nitrogen molecule absorbs the photon(s) to

明年ms in EE 毕业,主要是photonics device 方面,组里simulation 和fabrication
都做很多,老板比较牛,现在鼓励我读博士,他的理由是硕士也能找到工作,但是容易
停留在一个职位上stuck,从长远看,博士的前途好很多。
我自己的情况,首先很喜欢做技术和市场结合的东西,自觉的表达能力很好。另外真读
博士的话,读出来就好老了(31-32),觉得也没什么前途。从这样看似乎是不该读的
,但是另一方面看,我老觉得现在光学,光电,photonics这方面市场还是不是很好,
ms能不能找到工作,还有就是纳米光学器件这方面自觉挺有发展潜力的,如果混个phd
将来无论在美国还是回国是不是都比较好一些,虽然我对cleanroom有些恐惧。。
想听听大家的建议,特别是对我老板的理由有什么看法,是不是phd将来无论做市场或
者管理升迁的速度和可能性都好些?

"...for many companies"? I do not think you can name 10 companies which
still hire photonics device people.
There might be a couple of out there, but most are in defense industry and
they do not hire foreigners.I will reward you with a BAOZI if you list 10
meaningful.

以前发过帖子,讨论过想quit掉这个EE的phd,转投CS的门下,不过后来还是打算继续
把master拿到早点出去工作比较好。
简单介绍:
女生,在东边,3流烂校,预计明年夏天毕业。方向是photonics,做device的,主要是
做fab。来美一年,基本也是上课,也带TA,间或作点研究,主要是作点fab,或者测点
I-V等数据。
选了几门课程:Photonics,Solid state electronics, semiconductor devices, EM
wave, VLSI, Digital signal processing.也是选的课很杂很乱,下学期再修3门课,
明年春天做个thesis,不出意外应该夏天能够毕业。课程倒是学的不错,GPA一直都是4
(可能是小学校的缘故吧)。第二作者小paper一篇,不出意外,应该自己也能再发篇
小paper。差不多就结业了。
所以也在考虑找工作的问题。不知道大虾们有些什么指教?本来个人喜欢CS,编程啥的
,不过一个女生,出来做coding也不是长久之事。所以还是准备在EE里面找个事情先做
着。请问,像这样的情况,需要在哪些方面加强?

optics is heavily related to defense industry
before, at least we have the semiconductor, it needs a lot of optical
metrology stuff. now semiconductor is going down
so the only ones left are bio-photonics, laser, and defense
bio-photonics is like everything in bio, one word: shitty: long working hour
, thouthand year postodog, and low salary, it can support h1-B though
laser needs green card because of ITAR (international trade control etc)

第一次在板上发帖。
我现在的情况:
在一个综排20,专排40左右的学校PhD一年级。因为本科学的光学还有其它各种原因目
前貌似跳到Nano-Optics方向这个就业火坑里了。
因为是第一年所以感觉research的小方向上还是有比较大的空间的。老板目前的课题大
概在plasmonics/metamaterial还有on-chip photonic interconnect上。
plasmonics/metamaterial这个方向目前的感觉是大家都在灌水,实在是看不到什么工
业界的应用,这个接着做下去基本就是postdoc争取faculty的路了,我实在也不想这样
,比较摧残人。
on-chip photonic interconnect的话倒是有看到intel/ibm/hp之类的大公司一直想在
发展,但是实在说不清未来这玩意前途如何,不过至少在indeed.com上翻着intel之类
的公司还有这方面的job position。
目前我的课题工作基本就是类似comsol的FDTD模拟还有cleanroom的fabrication。不知
道什么样的技能可以帮助以后找到一个差不多的工作。... 阅读全帖

建议你现在开始看看大公司的招聘要求,就知道工业界都要求有哪些经验会哪些技能,
cleanroom的fabrication 方面多学PLD, e-beam, SEM, PECVD...,你去看micron的招
工广告就知道了。
plasmonics/metamaterial,是火坑勿跳!要真选这个课题了你就快加强fabrication方
面吧!
on-chip photonic interconnect / silicon photonics 相对好找工作,但确实是大公
司才玩得起. 有师兄找到这方面工作,但要绿卡。
FDTD?最好自己能写FDTD算法,精通理论,还要精通软件。招人公司有seagate,ANSYS..
做模拟还是好的,若实在不行还可以改行做码工.

先说说我自己的情况,某个小学校的EE PhD,做的是optical transceiver,laser
driver,receiver之类的电路,也做photonic device 的modeling和design,主要是MZM
和APD。有过两次流片经验,但都不是很成功,汲取之前的经验,现在准备做第三片。
准备年底毕业,现在刚刚开始找工作。投了很多Analog high speed circuit design的
工作,要么石沉大海,要么回复说经验不足。自己感觉也有点心灰意冷啊。
这两天面试了一个test development的工作,说要给我offer。公司是做photonic
integrated circuit,是很match的一个公司,但是岗位不是完全满意。觉得这个岗位
可能不太有挑战性,担心将来的发展不大好。我还是更喜欢做点design engineer的活。
希望这里的大神给指点指点,顺便也求一个内推。

当初本科时候,ECE,课从photonics/devices,power/wave,electronics,communication/
control到hardware/software...
什么课学的都挺好(分数A起..)然后感觉analog整体平均分很低,自己分高显得有优势,
又不知道哪里看到说analog经验饭越老越好,就决定学这个了..其实没什么特别感兴趣
的,就觉得photonics/wave/control这种不能碰然后就选了个..
之前读研开始时候导师洗脑营造出一幅RF又要繁荣的景象,然后大规模压活下来让你没
日没夜的做也没时间去想别的..几个月前tapeout结束了感觉整天layout没什么意义也
学不到什么东西,休息了一个月和国内的同学(国内那班比较好,75%+进了港清北复交...
),知乎上几个微电子下的知名答主交流了(均在美国工作,有的还在做RF/analog,也有的
自学转CS了..),完全没人建议学这个,国内的同学学EE的全转掉了...然后就遇到了那个
phd朋友,说了他在这里从业的感觉.现在挺好,自己看/编了一个月的程,然后看看onl... 阅读全帖

(4) Photons released out of OLEDs.
The coupling of electronic excitations to photon states is affected by the
physical structure of OLEDs. The presence of the metallic cathode provides a
mirror that modifies the pattern of the electromagnetic modes near the
cathode. The variation of Alq film thickness in a two-layer structure will
change the distance between emissive zone and the cathode, therefore emission
spectra, as shown in Figure 1-5, and spectral emission pattern will
accordingly change.
