Offer Letter说的Salary Review是Annual Based. 我是去年七月中旬先给公司做
volunteer。当时没有办法,OPT迟迟没有批下来。我的Official Employment Date是八
月后期,OPT批下来以后。在这种情况下,是不是公司要等到八月以后才会给我Salary
Review呀? 要是这样,公司也太不地道了。在其他方面倒感觉公司对俺不错,不想在这件事

First, engineering higher, private is higher, of course top 20 schools pay more if you are one of them,...;
Second, T-T position most likely is 9-month salary, other 3 is on your own,
some have summery salary for first 2-3 years as a start-up, not always.
Unless you will teach during summer, not quite sure if anyone wants to do that.
Third, You said it is an atypical college, you might get an atypical salary too, who knows. If you could, please post your final number here and area, so we can see

this just depends on whether the univ allows it or not. i had 3-month summer
salary last year plus some salary from teaching a 2-week summer course in a
summer school, but the salary from the course had to be put into a personal
research account because my univ does not allow anyone to go beyond the 3-month limit. if your univ allows 14 months, it has nothing to do with any senior prof or anyone else and i don't see the need for them to 翻眼睛. the senior profs in my dept was happy for me, not 翻ing

本人tenure-track AP. 工作还不到一年。由于家庭原因,今年8月份我要move到一个新
的学校和老婆团聚。新offer正在negotiate中,大概3月初签字,我会在哪个时候跟
Chair讲。
我的问题是,我能拿到summer salary 吗?学校会按照offer letter承诺的那样给我发
salary吗?会不会chair知道我要走,就不给我发summer salary了?
这个问题应该是合法也是合情合理的。请大家不吝赐教。

签了个offer,当时没有negotiate salary,因为觉得不错,而且是拿到的offer里面给
的最高的了,所以感觉没有negotiate的资本。
今天看了本版的讨论,就去查了chronicle,发现起薪比这个学校的average assistant
professor的salary低了13%,这正常么?
感觉自己有点naive了,怎么能查到不同系的salary呢?因为本人的专业非热门薪高专
业。

Salary level varies a lot even with the same job title, because years of
service and experience also matter a lot! For example, a newly promoted
Associate Prof may be paid 90K while someone who has been on that title for
five years might be paid 120K, and the two might be equally productive.
Obviously, the senior person most likely would have more publications
accumulated over the years.

80K is a very good salary for a non-tenure track faculty position.
If you believe you are underpaid, find another job with a higher
salary. If you are afraid of losing the job, don't ask for a
salary increase.
Are the two first authored papers published in CNS?
In that case, you are underpaid.
If they are just some average journals, you are overpaid.
It is a free market. You need to know your market value.

小teaching school,下周去on campus interview
之前都是学校 HR 给我email和我约phone interview和on campus interview的时间。
在她给我的email的第一段话里面,有一句提到薪水,“This is a fulltime, tenure-
track position with a base salary of $xx,xxx”
请问大家,这种情况薪水就已经固定了吗?如果被问到salary expectation,是不是只
能说一个接近HR email里提到的base salary?

现在有个头疼的问题。
9个月工资给的不少,很competitive了。可是startup fund给的很少,也就6万多,买
了仪器,电脑server,可能连学生都招不上了,更别提付自己的summer salary了。我
觉得这有点欺负我了。
我想问问
1.没有summer salary很正常么???????
2.我能negotiate startup fund到13万么?这样我可以招一个两年post doc。可是我觉
得一下子要double的钱,觉得象狮子大开口,怕人家吓到,然后收回offer。我觉得我
这钱要的不多了,我还不是生物化学的专业呢,,,,
这个学校是个150名开外的南方州立破学校。。。。

但是我没大看懂啊。
1) 你说的25% 是什么意思? 是三个月的25%? 也就是request 0.75个full month
salary?
2) 另外,你说的100%指的是三个月的100%?还是12个月的100% (因为你说了可以超过
三个月)?
3) 学校那边倒不是问题。他们说你可以request “full summer salary from an
outside source (33.3%) of your 9-month salary”。

觉得Chair的话一定要参考的。
如果你在校园访问的时候,如果有结识的熟人,觉得信得过的话,可以私下里可以问问
大概的salary range。
此外,如果你没有其他的offer在手上,觉得salary negotiation会比较吃力(手上没
有bargaining power),前些时候看到版上有个帖子,是发帖者的导师对她在salary
negotiation上的建议,你可以看看(至少对我非常有用)。

Labor Department has changed the minimum annual salary necessary to be
exempt from overtime rules from $23,660 to $47,476. This minimum is set to
begin December 1, 2016. This affects us mainly with regard to postdoc

现在有一个公司说
• 100% match of the first 3% of your annual salary
• 50% match of the next 2% of your annual salary

increased by 900. So I asked HR why it is increased, HR replied: This is as
per LCA wages.

我可以确定的告诉你有些background check可以查出你的current salary。
又可以告诉你有的时候查不出。
有过一次在要给人一个offer的时候,公司HR通知我说这个人说current salary是X,可
是其实是Y。也有听过当年查不出,以后混熟了后才知道的。
具体上为什么查出或查不出呢?据我所知,查的出应该是通过像是ADP或者假如你没有
说不能通知现在employer,那HR跟HR一般打交道都是肯在这点合作的。还有,假如你上
一个工作是在会公开工资的地方,比如government,那至少我公司用的background
check (Occuscreen)永远查的出来。
还有,reference假如有一个应该知道你salary的人,像主管,打来的background
check或HR本身会问。我有的时候会为我以前的员工做reference,打来的会直接问我“
XXX submits that his most recent position was YYY, and made ZZZ. Can you

H1b申请时的薪水填的是BASE SALARY还是加上所有的收入,比如SIGN ON BONUS?
拿了个OFFER,base salary比我在H1B查询到的2009年该公司同类职位低。还有点
SIGNON BONUS,分两年拿,加上的话又比H1B的信息高。不知道能不能把base salary谈
的再高点,真是纠结啊。

了。
有些好的猎头还会提醒interview的时候不要问salary,如果被问之,实在回避不了就

background and experience,然后转移话题说I'am more interested in advancing
my career in this project/area, and your company blah blah blah。关键是永远
不要说死一个数。如何回答网上还有很多。

that's an answer for 'how much are you expecting', not 'what's your current
salary'
I always have recruiters ask to know what I should offer, if I see a salary
that doesn't seem right, I ask for salary slip and W-2. most managers do
something similar, so definitely don't lie about your current comp as it's
easily verifiable. you can always negotiate after you get the offer, but be
honest and be reasonable (don't expect 50% raises if you r close to market
rate)

那上面的数据是申请LCA时候填的,
salary base指的是开始时候的工资,这个最重要,不能低于PV,
salary to指的是工资预期能涨到多少,仅供dol参考,用处不大,
实际以后工资能涨到多少,谁知道呢

工作offer除了pay外 有其他方面: 工作内容是否有意思,manager人品, work-life
balance, 这些其他东西不是recruiter能控制的。 但recruiter 可以影响offer的

实交换意见的过程,candidate虽然不满意salary, 但还是会接受offer as it is 的,
这不能告诉recruiter, 否则他/她一定不跟你涨工资. 讨价还价的过程让很多诚实正
直人士很不自在。 有时在想现在recruiting过程包含讨价还价环节的合理性在哪?为
什么不能像 超级市场卖东西一样采用公开刚性价格,这个岗位就是这个价钱, 没有讨
价还价的余地。这样candidate 不用担心应有价格被不公平压低, recruiter 也不用

投了senior enginner, Amazon要我onsite,问我expected salary,我就按glassdoor上

碰上一个很郁闷的事情
LD刚开始以OPT的身份做博后, 拿的是学校的一个fellowship, 60K/year
实际上钱的来源可能是一半从学校来, 一半从老板那里来
因此一半被定性成stipend,一半被定性成salary
当初commit之前问办H1的事, 对方可能也不是特别熟悉, 反正是说肯定给办, 没问题.
现在被 I-office 告知salary不够H1的minimum,不给办H1.
请问, 是这么回事么? 有什么办法可想么? 真是被郁闷着了.

好羡慕你们这里能领salary的,俺至少有15年没有领过salary了。
以前在国内工作时,每个月的salary也少的可怜,几千块,不够每个月
泡妞的钱。
