发帖数: 15 | 2 我现在是PhD一年级，面临选导师的问题，主要有两个选择，一个是pk／pd modeling,
另一个是做biostatistics. 做这两
个方向以后估计都是去工业界，因为对两者的就业形势了解甚少，比较纠结。听说pk
pd modeling 现在还属于比较新的
领域，工作岗位比较少，但做这个方向的人也不多。而biostatistics学的人很多，也
常听到工作越来越难找，但是以后工作
不只是局限在药厂，需要做统计的其他领域也有不少岗位。真诚的想请对这两方向有所
了解的人帮忙比较一下，哪个方向
的就业形势更好一些，一方面是薪水问题，另一方面是工作后的发展空间。
另外一个问题是如果做biostatistics, 是偏statistical methodology, 还是偏
statistical application更有利于今后找工作呢

的话选择会多一些，可是现在还没有两地的打算。查了一下public health 课程只有
Principles of Biostatistics， Applied Biostatistics 和Multivariate
Biostatistics 三门统计课。其他都是Epidemiology, clinical trial 和health
policy方面的课。读完了这样的programm，再考个SAS证书，统计的工作好不好找啊？

没有funding的，但是Statistics是有TA的，两个program都只有8个月到1年（当然可以
延期)，UA的是两年,有TA。 UT biostatistics有practicum挺不错的，就是学生跟个导
师做项目，很实用， statistics那边有们consulting的课也很有用。 两个学校我都呆
过，Alberta的统计的就业率也不错，当然学校没有UT好，Edmonton的气候也比Toronto
差一些。 |

epidemiology，有小型的clinical trial，生统的东西用的相对较多，简历上也写了（
吹嘘？？）自己的skill有biostatistics，最近在找工作，过了第一轮技术面（面试内
容偏epidemiology），早上得知被安排在下周一进行第二轮电话面试，对方是public
health牛校的biostatistics博士，毕业后的工作前几年title都是biostatistician。
他来现在这个公司以后，开始是associate，现在的title是manager。
我一直觉得自己的biostat水平接近一个biostat master level的学生，跟biostat的
phd当然还差得很远。具体做工作的时候，用的东西倒是都知道，会用，但是一旦触及
深层次的问题，就很迷糊。我处在有时候觉得自己生统懂得还不少，多数时候觉得自己
水的不行、没啥自信的状态。

背景：统计硕士，毕业后大学工作半年多，Funding is cut, position is gone. 期间
用OPT工作。此后找工两个半月至今，Failed 了两个 Onsite Interviews， 最近情况
Slow down，没有面试。 现在initial one year OPT只剩下70 多天, 急需解决身份问
题！Thanks for your help in advance!
方案1. 想办法Extend OPT for extra 17 months， 然后继续找工作.
有一亲戚在美国开公司， 可以办H1B，但不确定是否是E-verify company. 如果是，那
就可以办OPT延期 （但不想在那工作）。能否这样操作？ 有风险吗？
同时也看到版上有公司贴广告给办OPT extension， 有人办过吗？信誉好吗？
方案2. 手中还有个PHD offer，可以继续读个学位。

study from public health to biostatistics. Show OISS your transcript,
thesis, etc, anything that can prove your specific field of study is
biostatistics. Generally, OISS is willing to help student in this way. They
may request your advisor/program manager to write a letter to support, then
they will change your I20. I don't think diploma matters for OPT extension
application.

上都是写的我的专业是public health （concentrate in biostatistics），我这么多
年都一直没发现，一直以为我就是biostatistics专业。所以，opt extension申请结果
还真不好说。
我现在的主要担心问题是，如果opt extension被拒的话，再申请h4有没有问题，比如
说，我知道被拒的时候，现有opt已经过期，我是不是就没有身份了，得立即回国了，
还可以再递交h4的申请吗？
