我和LP都是12/29签的，LP早上先签F1，比较轻松，Biostatistics专业。就问了基本的情况，还有Biostatistics和Bioinformatics是否一样。顺便说一下，我前面的F1们基本上都是很快就轻松过了。
午后12点半，我签H1B，现在学校里Postdoc，Biophysics专业。Ph.D.的方向是Physical Chemistry。
VO问了做什么样的research，然后到电脑里面查了一些东西，估计是跟专业有关。然后要了CV，research plan，advisor的信，网页和CV，便问：
Have you heard about our famous check process?
一看这架势就知道完了，只好说
Oh, yeah.然后苦笑。
VO解释了一些check的细节，包括专业的选择性，check的时间等等，然后接着问我：
Have you been checked before?
我说： No.

背景：统计硕士，毕业后大学工作半年多，Funding is cut, position is gone. 期间
用OPT工作。此后找工两个半月至今，Failed 了两个 Onsite Interviews， 最近情况
Slow down，没有面试。 现在initial one year OPT只剩下70 多天, 急需解决身份问
题！Thanks for your help in advance!
方案1. 想办法Extend OPT for extra 17 months， 然后继续找工作.
有一亲戚在美国开公司， 可以办H1B，但不确定是否是E-verify company. 如果是，那
就可以办OPT延期 （但不想在那工作）。能否这样操作？ 有风险吗？
同时也看到版上有公司贴广告给办OPT extension， 有人办过吗？信誉好吗？
方案2. 手中还有个PHD offer，可以继续读个学位。

最近要换工作到lg的城市, 拿到了两个offer,却不知该如何选择了，非常的纠结，请大
家指点
我一下吧，无尽感激阿！！
我原来是计算机背景，统计master, 两年经济类consulting公司工作经验，也是基本上
编程。
现在一个工作是biostatistics，纯sas编程，full time job.
好处：
1。可以转到用sas了（原来用的是别的语言），做两年后sas会很熟练，统计里sas一家
独大。
觉得sas弄好了，去finance也是可行的吧．
2。感觉统计领域中，什么sas programmer,biostatistics这类的工作还是占大部分，
觉得有了经验后，不愁以后没工作了。
3。离家非常近，10分钟车程。
坏处:
1。以前没有想往bistatistics里发展，因为是master，自知只能永远做sas

的是genetic epidemiology的master和PHD。数学系有一部分统计的课，但是也不提供
任何生统专业的学位。
华大的division of biostatistics里的faculty和staff都是为了给medical school做
research的。学校没有这专业的原因是因为SLU已经有school of public health了。WU
考虑要把SLU的合并过来，但时间未知。
我恰好是学生统，并在WU工作的。如果要问就业前景，应该还可以吧，虽然已经要饱和
了。
如果学经济的，建议学精算或者会计吧。 |

great potential)
主要做一些biostatistics，clinical trial，还有一些public health之类宏观的分析
。用R,SAS, 或者stata都可以。最好懂一点点UNIX，C。

自从去年拿到生物硕士，在医学中心找到一个technician的工作至今，深感生物硕士男
的悲哀，工资低不说，以后的发展很渺茫。也试图换工作，奈何休斯顿药厂少。也计划
着转行，GRE和托福都过期了，现在需要重新考，本人27了。一想到转行从考g和t,到申
请学校到读书，又是至少五年，就觉得对不起老婆，她每天辛苦上班，还计划要孩子。
目前信息量十分有限，自己目前打算的出路就是申请rice的物理或统计的硕士，都需要
花费很大。休大由于学校不如rice好，感觉读出来找工作又多了一道槛，所以没太考虑
。医学院的好专业比如physician assistant需要有绿卡才能申请。本人不计划离开休
斯顿，老婆工作不错还稳定，知道该版上牛人多，还望指教。谢谢。

我觉得既然你不走学术路线，你不需要牛老板，老板人nice最重要，
既然你已经过了qualification exam，老板又同意你让读part time
biostatistics，你就在现在的学校读下去，花2年拿个biologyPHD和
biostatistics的MS很划算。如果可以，甚至多拿个computer的MS。

Biostatistics是statistics下的一门学科
Bioinformatics是一个应用而已，CS和Biostatistics的人在做，需要较强的数学知识
，不只是写程序。LZ phd毕业最好别做药厂做码农，就算要做也得去湾区做C++/Java，
至少图个快钱。
如果LZ找的是研究职位，博士期间一作两篇的话，算一般水平。如果是application
notes那还得减分
