It is a cold day, 51F highest and ~45F at 6pm. I joined in a group run, 5
miles, and I took it as a recovery run. Finished with 9:00+ pace. Still felt
the slight pain and tightness on my high end part of my calf, close to my
left knee. Switched to walk at mile 5 and iced it right after the workout.
When I walk, I can still feel it. Hope I will get fully recovered in next a
few days. If it still hurts till next Sunday, I will truly regret to take
the 3 mile recovery run on Friday following the Sunday Marathon.
Anything can help other than cold/hot therapy?

no, nothing wrong on the surface, at least I could not tell.

If I try to tighten my calf, I can feel the difference between the left and
right. It is not really painful when not running, but it is there.
I am afraid the effect will be doubled or even more when I attack hills in
the race after 20 miles.

I think it is still recovering some fiber torn. you might want to adjust
your goal?

Maybe take some time off to do biking, swimming etc. No point to chase BQ
in the next few months anyway.

If it still hurts till the race, I have to adjust my goal. Doubt if I can
finish it in that case. Hope it is getting better quickly.

I am thinking to do biking today, instead of recovery run.
My race is on next Sunday. Although BQ is pointless at this moment, it is a
race anyway.

That does sound like a slightly pulled calf muscle. You had 4 days in
between your marathon race and the recovery run, which is normally pretty
safe. Following my last couple marathons I only took one or two days off. At
this point I think the best thing to do is to take it easy in Cape Cod
marathon. It is not worth the risk to push it.

我觉得你不如这个比赛随便跑跑, 再找下一个冲BQ, 俺的腿感觉昨天才有点
恢复过来, 上下楼不咬牙切齿了, 今天看看能不能跑一跑。。。

I have no idea how the injury came with a really slow run and that is my
first time pulled calf. Maybe I was concentrating on forefoot landing when
my muscle tissues were still under damage. That larger contraction on my
calf from forefoot compared to midfoot or heel-strike landing caused the
final collapse.
Good news is that 2011 Boston was already full, :)

right, will definitely take advices here and take a close look on my calf.
If it does not heal in time, I will either take it easy or quit somewhere in
the race.

It is not only the concern of BQ, but also the time that I spent.
Psychologically I am confident about BQ, either this one or next one. It is
all about the time.
